Doug Whaley just said on our show he could see Mike Tomlin leaving the Steelers for LSU or USC.
Laid out how Tomlin would be the CEO of those programs, how his message resonates better and how transition now makes sense because of Roethlisberger on way out.

Can he recruit?

Plus, just doesn't seem like something that a Steelers coach would do. The Steelers do a great job of holding on to coaches AND players. They've built their franchise on that.

Wouldn’t he prefer going back to ESU?

I would be happy with that. He’d probably dominate at LSU.

I always thought Tomlin would make a better college coach than NFL coach. He's very much a CEO type of coach, but man, players love him and his ability to manage personalities is second to none (he had AB and Leveon Bell on the same team, productively). He'd kill it in recruiting.

That said, I don't want him. CEO coaches rarely sustain success at the college level, and Tomlin is pretty average when it comes to game planning and game day.

He hasn't had a losing season in the NFL since he became a head coach. I think that is more qualifying than 'he hasn't coached college in 20 years'.

Guys this isn't a hard thing to do, its just not. Does he want to do it is probably the better question.
