Name one win that is impressive at MSU.
I’ll wait.
I’ll wait.

My only point is that if you can’t get a A tier candidate then Tucker isn’t really all that more or less risky than a lot of guys out there
In my opinion, Tucker is more risky than others because we don't really know that much about him in terms of running a program.
He's coached two and a half seasons at two different schools. He was hired by MSU so late, his first season was basically meaningless, and like I mentioned, he brought in a ton of transfers this year.

I mean if we hired Kiffin and had a few nice seasons before he flamed out, would you really be surprised? I would hire Kiffin before Tucker fwiw but you can’t say he’s no risk.
You're right, I can't say he'd be no risk. However, I would be a little surprised if Kiffin flamed out after a few years because he's never been a HC anywhere long enough for us to see it.
And before you bring up USC, he took that job right after the NCAA hammered them. Pat Haden was also a dumbass of an AD.

but this guy took a rock bottom Michigan State team and has them in the hunt right now.
Why make shite up?
He took a 7-6 team and then went 2-5
At Colorado he took a 5-6 team and went 5-7
He will play 4 ranked teams, 3 of which are in the Top 10 over the next 5 games. He could finish 7-5, if his past history repeats itself

I don’t even care about USC, he was absolutely on tilt against Bama from the word go. It looked like the moment was too big for him IMO

The sample size on Tucker the HC is way too small and his DC track record is kind of spotty. The guy shouldn’t be one of the top 3 names for this job best on his resume other than people trying to invoke Saban comparisons that aren’t there

It's impressive considering the state of Mich State before him
He was 5-7 at Colorado and 2-5 in his first season at Mich St (Covid shortened).
He's 7-0 now but hasn't played a ranked team yet. 4/5 of his final games are vs ranked teams. Let's see how he does against good teams.

Talk to me in December. His schedule so far has been fluff and there have been close games in that fluff.
4 of his next 5 games are against ranked opponents, so if you’re Tucker’s agent, you’ve got 13 days to leverage LSU for a bigger deal at MSU or sign with LSU

Franklin and Tucker should not be candidates. Not impressed with either.
Franklin won at Vandy. Imagine what he could do at LSU.

Stop acting like MSU was. 3-7 team the years before Tucker came in. They were mediocre bowl teams at 7-6 the previous two seasons. He didn’t take over a dumpster fire like you claim.
They were 10-3, 7-6 and 7-6 the preceding. Three seasons. They had one losing record since 2010.

Can’t look at it that way, it happened as it did and they found a way to win bottom line.
If we run the ball in the 4th quarter, we beat Auburn. If Florida doesn’t meltdown over a counter, we lose that one. You could do this all day every year.

We definitely need a much higher standard than this

He is not a Slash Hire and his coaching record is meh.

LSU is considered a top 3 coaching job in the nation. Mel Tucker is not on this level yet regardless of color.
I had no idea who he was until these coaching threads. He probably isn’t a bad coach but we’re not looking for a well “he isn’t a bad coach” type of hire. Woodward will hire a big name coach.
Mel Tucker is a 500 win percentage coach at this point. Even if he does well the rest of the year, one good season, see coach O, does not qualify you for a top 3 coaching job in the nation.

You do know where Nick Saban came from, dont you?
So you are comparing him to Saban??

He fits Tate’s qualifications. David Shaw might be a Tate guy too.

Hmmm, where have we seen this before??

Based on this board you'll think the guy was coaching defense at starlings park in New Orleans i.e. he is not qualified based on this board.

Is Mel Tucker wildly different (for better or worse) of a candidate than Aranda?
Posted on 10/19/21 at 8:47 am to GeauxTigerNation
I don't think he is a "bad" coach at all. I do want to see how he handles the upcoming games. To date they have played no one really. . Oh and IDGAF what color he is.

I know you guys want the next Saban, but this guy took a rock bottom Michigan State team and has them in the hunt right now.
Isn't what we want someone who can come in and have success immediately? He checks that box.
