Regardless you do have to give him some credit for finally getting the interview. He worked his arse off and basically lived at the facility.

Why was everybody hating on Marty last weekend? Maybe there’s something I don’t know about. But I thought he was hilarious. I do think it was a clown show, but I think he’s the perfect guy for a clown show.

and honestly it was a great interview...asked the big questions people wanted to hear, while staying respectful to both parties.

Marty Smith is better suited for a NASCAR pit wall than SEC football and he gets an inordinate amount of hate here. Yeah, he is somewhat cringey, but I have met him in a social setting and he is the exact same guy off camera. Cringey and wordy with a weird accent but also authentically….all of those things.
Not a fan boy by any stretch, but the man does care for his craft and pursues it relentlessly.

exactly... sure, he didn't get the "scoop" on everyone, but he still was dead set on getting SOMETHING, and he did... i applaud him for not just giving up and saying frick this, and sticking it out until he did have something to report...

Yeah, I mean comedy is subjective. And I can see why people got mad in the moment. But in hindsight, I think he was probably just goofing around.

In the above video, Marty said Lane led him through a bunch of random fields at Oxford Airport to bypass the security to get the interview. Said he was jumping rolling hills and as he pulled up to Lane (who he was on the phone with), he could just see him laughing his arse off.
