And I would expect Kiffin to let that deadline elapse and take the firing so he can claim he did not leave but he was shown the door.

Ole Miss isn’t in a position to make demands.

And I'm fairly certain they know this. No demands were made. Just outside people SAYING demands were made, and other outside people saying that "sources" say that demands were made.

He's not staying now. You just made him look like a villain and he'll be chastised constantly. Why the hell would he stay? Dumb. Thanks Ole Miss. Florida/LSU is about to be happy.

That deadline might have run Kiffin off. You know what an ego he has.

This. I don't blame OM at all to take this position. Lane could leave them in a horrible position waiting until January. Do you really think OM will be focused in the playoffs with Kiffin bullshite going on the whole time? Better to deal with this now.

What idiocy by Ole Miss. you have a great season going. If you can dodge UGA and Ohio State till final somehow you got a shot.

Let this thing play out.

Like I said, I'd be so pissed if I was an ole miss fan.

Ole miss wasn't winning a chip with this team anyway imo but...

I don't think so. Deadlines force action. By saying decide by Nov. 28, they are forcing Kiffin to stay with OM or justify to everyone leaving your team for another job right before the CFP. That is a HARD decision for a coach to make. You put in all of the work to get a team to the goal...then bail on them right at the end. It would be much easier for Kiffin to leave after OM's season ends and they are eliminated from the CFP.

However, if you don't put a deadline in play OM runs the risk of having him coach in the CFP, lose short of the NC game (which will likely happen) and still leave OM looking for a new HC. Only at that point OM would be delayed in the search because Kiffin's decision to leave would be in late December...at the earliest. If you are OM and your coach is going to bail either way, you'd rather know that as soon as possible so you can start planning for the future.

what about an nfl job?

I'd think they still want an answer on the same timeline so they aren't a late entrant into the market for a new coach....after all the best candidates have either already been hired by other schools or signed big extensions to stay with their current schools.

Only difference with leaving for the NFL is that he'd still be coaching Ole Miss for the playoffs.

deadline is good for us, i was worried we might wait through the playoffs. now we will have a coach in place by first week in december no matter what.

Yeah, I don’t think OM really has a choice but to force a decision. They need to know prior to the transfer portal window, playoffs or not. An interim coach may even have a better chance to hold the team together in the playoffs than a noncommittal Kiffin.

Considering what lane kiffin has done for ole miss he deserves to do everything on his own time.
