I am telling you. Freeze told Gus "Arkansas State is loaded Gus. Take the job! You'll go 11-1 with the reigning Sun Belt player of the year returning then you will get your 2million a year job you want."
This sounds extremely plausible.

His wife slept with chizik? His wife slept with half the team?

McElwain got a pay raise to go to a mediocre program.
Malzahn got a major pay cut to do the same...after turning down a pay raise to coach at an SEC school just a few months ago.
It just makes no sense.
McElwain just took a HC job where coaches go to die. It is a dead program with scattered success. It is an OK campus, but it is not a great destination for recruits. It isn't even considered a stepping stone. It is really known as a Headstone. So which OC was more desperate to leave or asked to leave?
I am not suggesting ASU is supremely better, but Gus will launch quicker then McElwain. In fact I will venture to say McElwain will not improve his resume.

Easy, RockyMtnTigerWDE. You just described a place that sounds an awful lot like where AU's head coach was hired from.

Personally, I think CJM looked at the 3 options he had and picked the one he would most like to stay at rather than a stepping stone. If you look at his background and his personality I would say CSU is a pretty good fit for CJM and his family.

Exactly. CJM is more of a West Coast/Intermountain West guy coming from Fresno, CA. Colorado State is a MUCH better job than Fresno State. He basically doubled his salary and got to be a head coach at a decent Div 1 program. He's basically in the Denver, CO area to so he's in a really nice place to live. Total no brainer for a guy like CJM to jump at the CSU coaching job offer. On the other hand, Malzahn to Arky State with a large pay cut just doesn't make a lot of sense.

When he wins and is a top coaching candidate for the next major SEC job in a few years it will all be clear to you.

Its not really that fishy.
With Frazier not really developing and the issues with dyer, the writing was on the wall: another year of bad offense and all of sudden my name is ice cold.
He saw a guy who went into StAte, won 10 games with a spread offense, and said I can jump in there and not miss a beat.
Sometimes to take two steps forward you have to take one step back
