Yeah and Malzahn wasn't going to stay at Auburn for 4 years to coach him, either. Didn't seem to stop Frazier from following him.

Kiehl won't be leaving Auburn for stAte.

He loves Auburn. I mean, LOVES Auburn. I'm friends with Tigerettes at Auburn and they hang out with the players all the time. Kiehl loves the city, his teammates, the football, the coaches, etc... EVERYTHING...

He'll stay

This was not a I'm going back home deal. Jonesbooger is nothing like the nw part of the state. I don't know if he just wanted any Hc job or just wanted out, but arky state isn't home to him. Hell tulsa would be more of going back home type of job.

What's even more fishy is he leaves to be head coach at a school ranked #31 in the country, while your O coordinator goes to the #110 ranked team out of 121. Now THAT is really fishy!!

Cutting your paycheck in half to go to some JUCO in Arkansas is almost as dumb as turning down 3 mil to coach Vandy. Idk what goes through this guy's mind

What's worse are retards that still think Malzahn was going to make 3 mil a year at Vandy.
Do some research, fricktard.

dude, i get that you don't want to hear people flame your OC, but you've got to admit you would do the same if Kirby left to go coach at Arky St. It would be "Kirby can't stand little Nicky".

Also, McElwain more than doubled his income with his move. Gus nearly cut his in half. I'm not hear to flame, but the two moves aren't comparable in any way.

Why would he take that pay cut?

Perhaps he's just one of the few people who refuse to allow money to call more shots than their wisdom.

There is a lot of stupid up in here tonight. Who knew such a terrible OC getting a HC job would create such a stir. i'm glad he is getting a chance to be a HC, and I'm eager to see what he can do.

They even got a pushpin on the SEC rant about him.

The guy is a very good OC, but I could never understand why posters here feared him like they did.

Can someone interview Gus' wife so we can get the real story? I'm guessing he's looked at the pressures of head coaching in the SEC and said no thanks. Sometimes it a better quality of life to be a big fish in a smll pond.

McElwain got a pay raise to go to a mediocre program.

Malzahn got a major pay cut to do the same...after turning down a pay raise to coach at an SEC school just a few months ago.

It just makes no sense.

Let this be a lesson to you boys and girls, especially since it's money, it's something that should get your attention. Don't let your ego rule your brain. If the dumbshit would have listened to the rest of us who said his stock would fall off dramatically, he wouldn't have waited so long to jump ship.

So, either it is "fishy", or he thought his crap didn't stink and it was an ego problem.

It makes perfect sense, if your goal is to one day have a top level SEC-type job. Vandy is a coach killer. Franklin appears to be doing a good job, but who knows long term. If Malzahn wants to be the head coach at Arkansas or South Carolina or some other job that could open up in the next 3-5 years, then winning at Arkansas State sets him up to do that.

He doesn't even have to rebuild. Mcilwain could easily fail at rebuilding CSU. I think Arkansas State is a much better stepping stone job, short-term money disparities aside.

High school head coach? Check.
Mid major offensive coordinator? check.
SEC offensive coordinator? check.
Mid major head coach? check.
SEC head coach? soon.

Far be it for me to know about anything arky, but seems like you're talking pretty definatively for an event that may or maynot transpire many years down the road without even an inkling of how either is goign to perform as a head coach.

Lot of soothsayers on this board.
