As an aside, this thread was great till you gumps came and tried to sidetrack it. But it won't work. I now see the Bama board plan.

Everybody ignore the gumps and focus on the original intent of the thread.

You're getting your Bama fans mixed up. I personally think he goes to Texas out of boredom (What else does he have to prove at Alabama?) and the absurd dollars (9 million + per year) and side perks (oil wells, etc not to mention paid off debt) that Texas is going to throw at him. A desperate Texas will throw out money amounts so absurd that you almost HAVE to say yes to it.

So here is what I don't understand, Saban's contract isn't expiring anytime in the near future whether is 2017 or 2020 or 2019 so why is the fact that he hasn't signed an extension the sign of anything? Are we at the point where coaches HAVE to sign an extension every year? Have we any solid sources saying that there is an extension ready for Saban to sign and he's not? (Finebaum does not count)

I know Saban had a great year and many coaches extend after great years but for him this year was not as good as the 2 or 3 before it.

I just don't see the significance of the extension

We're not in the title game, but that's just the luck of the draw. The season has been equivalent to 2011 and 2012. 11 wins and 1 loss to a good team

Austin > Tuscaloosa by FAR

Notice that this has never been disputed by me or any other Bama fan. However, it is one of the very few things the Texas job has over the Alabama job. Tuscaloosa isn't bad at all but Austin is one of the great cities in America. Having said that, the two reasons I gave will be the reason he probably will take the Texas job and no other school could compete with that either.

Texas is the better job because

1. Easier conference vs hardest conference
2. UT is the daddy oF a state 6 times larger with 6 times the talent.
3. Lots more money for facilities, assistant, planes, himself.
4. A fan based starved for a championship
5 the opportunity to win a NC at three different schools
6. Austin > Tuscaloosa

HG

The only plus for staying at Bama is he's already built the program and hes winning. But thats a neg in that unrealistic expectations now permeate Bama. That's what Terry referred to in her interview.

You can't see the attraction of coaching at UT, but you call others irrational. OK.
