thread hijack, but after 4 years of going winless against LSU what does this say about Sumlin's program?

We are an embarrassment. We looked terrible tonight. Fournettes entire college career will be wasted

1. The defense looked lights out for a change. Other than the one great play by TAMU WR.
2. Fournette just became the all time single season rushing leader and will likely make a fortune for himself and his family.

I have no clue what some of you truly expect but maybe you should get out of your feelings and look at the situation without being so jaded.

Defense played well. Against a terrible team.

They have been absolutely abysmal all year before both Les and Steele were coaching for their jobs against a gimmick offense at night in tiger stadium.

And he will have won no games of significance in college. He, individually, has been great, but he could be put in an offense with even more chance to succeed and maybe win big games. Really want that kid to win an SEC title or at least play for one.

The problem is Miles sucks at game day decisions and game planning. We need to face the facts that the only games we will win are the ones where we have a decent talent advantage. If the talent is about equal, we really don't have much of a chance (especially if their talent is on defense).

And now teams recruiting against us can talk about how Miles is on his way out. Not only could recruiting take a hit, you are still stuck with a stubborn coach that will play not to lose rather than to play to win.

no plan b, everything depended on jimbo, how pathetic.

what should the plan B have been? The issue with Miles is he's not winning enough, if you are going to pay a guy $15M to leave for that reason. especially in light of the buget problems and political fallout that would surely come, you better make a grand slam hire and since Saban, Meyer, Belichick and Carroll were not realistic options, literally the only guy that would be absolute grand slam hire is Fisher and maybe Chip Kelly but he wouldn't be available for another 4-5 weeks at best, so yeah, it was Fisher or bust.

quote:

LSU AD (and many fans) had this fantasy concocted that a coach that has his team on a playoff trajectory every year in the ACC is going to leave that for LSU, out of the goodness of his heart. Never made any football sense for Jimbo to come here.

I've grown so weary of this stupid argument. Of course Fisher has a great job and can win titles at FSU. But given his past ties and stated affection for LSU is not a mere "pipe dream" to think he would come here. Those ties obviously do not mean he would for sure come heree, but it would depend on his personal preference and it wouldn't be "out of the goodness of his heart" but for a rumored 5 years at $30M.

Yep, keeping Miles (possibly for only another year) was plan B all along- As it should have been if we couldnt get a Homerun hire. No need to take a chance on an up and comer and lose the recruiting class. If things stay the same next year, then we make a move with better options. I highly doubt things will get worse with the returning talent we'll have, so its reasonable to wait and see at this point.

Im hopeful that the heat on Miles will be a wake up call that the offense has to be updated.

Look, dude, beating the Texas A&M Aggies is a signature win for any program or coach. You've reached the top when you can beat them.

i agree, going into the season i thought we need to win the SEC and make the playoff either this year or next or make a change. Now, the way things we were going i was fine with making a move this year, but it has to been a grand slam hire.

Keyboard jockeys can talk about taking changes all day because they have nothing at stake. Given the political climate you can't pay $15M to get rid of Miles and then maybe have to fire another coach in 4 or 5 years. I love Tom Herman, he might be the next big thing, but he could also be a bust. There is zero chance Fisher would do worse than Miles a young upcomer could do worse that's too risky at this level of money at this moment.

Jimbo didn't want to coach here. King prevented Alleva from making a bigger fool of himself IMO.

The buyout is only $11m paid over 8 years, possibly less.

quote:

Miles’ contract calls for him to receive $15 million if he is fired without cause by Dec. 31. However, the agreement also states that amount is to be reduced by the amount of money Miles already has received during his current contract year, which runs from Jan. 1, 2015, through Dec. 31.

As of Monday, Miles will have been paid and/or will be owed as much as almost $4 million of the $4.3 million he is scheduled to be paid this year. That means LSU’s buyout payment to Miles could be around $11 million.

....

LSU athletics department spokesman Michael Bonnette said the school had no comment.

Regardless of where the buyout would start, however, the amount of it that Miles would end up actually receiving from LSU likely would be lower — possibly a lot lower.

The agreement states that if Miles gets buyout money for being fired without cause, he “has the good faith duty and obligation to seek to obtain similar or related employment,” and that LSU’s financial obligation to him “shall be reduced … to the extent of any compensation (Miles) earns, receives or is entitled to receive from any third party” after his termination date.

I don't get it. What the duck just happened. We sent him off into the sunset like he deserved. I love les but it's clear we need a change

Do people not realize we should have won by 30 tonight? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

What is the point of this thread, and who is supposed to receive this point?

We've got a once in a generation running back and have finished in the bottom half of the SEC West in each of his first two years. I'd call that a waste of talent.

You are referring to individual accomplishments. I think he was referring to LSU wasting the opportunity of having someone like LF.

LSU finished fifth in the West last year and fourth in the West this year.
