I don’t care what level you are coaching at- that level of improvement is legit. Time will tell if Steeples is the right fit here, but you have to be an effective coach and leader to get that kind of improvement in the span of one class of HS players. He definitely has a lot of potential.
No kidding.
I think Kelly and his staff get a clean slate to show what they can do and we have to be prepared to see a lot of names that aren't well known in SEC circles.

I think steeples is a really good coach but a large part of that is the high school finally started to recruit again. Talent level went from producing no college prospects to multiple power 5 recruits each year.

He's an up and coming coach. Four years at a high school going from terrible to champions and then jumped to the NFL. This means he interviews well and inspires confidence in those hiring him. He's also young and you would expect him to have the ability to recruit well. I like this hire.
My guess from what I've read is he knows how to develop players well and can make a deep connection with players. These young hungry guys are needed to balance with the old wise CEO guys like Kelly and blends well with the 40 somethings who are regulars in the pro coaching game.

I know nothing about the guy but seems he isn’t qualified for the job of DB coach at LSU. Basing it off a few years of high school football and one year as assistant special teams coach in NFL not even as assistant db coach?

He played in the NFL. There are many players that go straight into coaching, some directly to the NFL or college.
There are also many high school coaches that get college position coaching spots - even without the NFL playing and coaching experience.

You are correct, he played in exactly 2 more NFL games than I have. But my stat line and his are exactly the same.

Everyone should check out the video that TigersGeaux01 posted. WE ARE!!!!
This guy seems like an awesome coach and leader and absolutely the kind of young mind you want as part of your program.
Honestly he seems like a future HC imo. The guy just has “it” and it isn’t hard to see why so many respected coaches at high levels have liked and wanted to hire him.
This staff is such a breath of fresh air so far, all professionals

Again you people forget your CB coaching god Raymond’s resume was essentially nothing when we hired him

Come on Bill
You know posters like pirate king are gonna crap on everything Coach Kelly does.

Gus Malzahn went from high school coach straight to offensive coordinator at Arkansas.

I am not defending Corey Raymond at all but you are just wrong about him not having any experience coaching db’s. He coached at 2 different schools as the db coach before coming back to Lsu where he was previously assistant S&C coach.

think a reasonable raise gets him to stay.
Our pass defense did not warrant a raise. It warranted a pay cut. Couple that with the opt outs from his position group-he should have been grateful for a job not asking for a raise

This exactly the kind of coach that was needed. He is young, played the position, Black, i know no-one wanted to say it, but its truth. He should have a good relationship with the players. Steeples will be the cb coach and Cook will coach safeties.
Think about Willie Green with the Pelicans, never been a head coach, but is young, played in the nba, and can relate to the players, all the players love and respect him.
That's what you are getting with Steeples.

He had 2 seasons at Utah State and one at Nebraska. At the time that was nothing to write home about and if he wasn’t a former player at LSU he probably doesn’t get that job at that point in his career. Steeples is young but was obviously coveted for a reason by Kelly and House.
