It should be either him or Riley, I’m fine with either.

Dave would do great here, he knows the state as far as recruiting and he would bring back Dennis Johnson to help.

People who say he can’t recruit are morons. He’s responsible for most of the LSU LBs in the NFL

Do some not remember our LBs before him like DJ Welter and Karnell Hatcher

Stop The Recruiting ratings insanity and look at how players are developed by the coach.

National Championships aren’t won by 17 year old Seniors in High School.

Show you can develop and win with what this cerebral coach looks for in his assessment of player potential and the winning will take care of attracting the higher stars.

Recruiting is the worst.

Imagine having to deal with these entitled morons.

I've never understood how anyone with a brain could be recruited by a buffoon like O and be like, "That's my guy!" But an intelligent, thoughtful person like Aranda is not appealing. WTFF kind of clown world is this?

Saban is a defensive mind in this league. Seems like it has worked well for him at both of his stops in the SEC.

someone mentioned title IX before, through no fault of his own, he may not be an option at this point in time.

He won Saturday. Riley lost Saturday.

Aranda > Riley

TBF, you are often dealing with very poor, very uneducated parents and kids.

Those type of people very, very often get taken by swindlers, charlatans, grifters, preachers, etc. Easily swayed by bluster and BS over substance.

He doesn't ramble on talking twice as fast as a normal human being.
He doesn't wear his hat sideways.
He didn't leave a D1 Program in complete shambles after his out of control QB left for TB.
His name isn't Jimbo.

He's also the opposite of Ed O and Les Miles, which would be VERY welcome. He's a smart, thoughtful guy. And a good coach.

This though I think people underestimate how good of a coach he is. He might not be flashy like Kiffin but IMO he is equally as effective and has proven it over time.

Recruiting at LSU is painstakingly easy.

Even with all the shite the last two years, players from Louisiana are dying to come here and play for a winner.

Aranda not enjoying recruiting as a DC is kind of irrelevant to me. You get hired on as a HC, you take on more responsibilities like you would at any other job. He knows what he has to do. He has a very recruiting-forward staff at Baylor, and im sure he would find the perfect mix at LSU

I agree, being an ace recruiter is not as important as some other things at LSU. LSU recruits itself now, has no in-state school to poach talent, and you can have ace recruiters on staff that do more of the day to day recruiting anyway.

don't get me wrong, its important.

But I am more focused on just a damn good coach, and I would like expertise/mastery over one side of the ball like Riley or Aranda, over a CEO type.

1. Uber organized
2. Understands the value of routine in the practice/S&C regimes.
3. Is a true believer in "drills are bloodless wars, and wars are bloody drills".
4. Knows what he wants from assistants, and makes it very clear the expectations.
5. Is a great communicator, even if his approach seems unconventional at times.
6. Loves, it is built in to his character, planning for the unforeseen. Very few suprises- his defensive players rarely uttered the words "we never imagined...".

What I don't like about him...
1. Staff does need to be a mix of big personalities and those that mirror or match Aranda's. He leans away from those guys a little too much.
2. Doesn't give the time of day to stupid people. Well, just like in business in football you have to deal with them. They are ghosts to Aranda; have to re-engineer his way of dealing with that to get them fixed or get the most out of them.

Sorry, forgot about him.

Should be something for SW to think about. The top two teams in the SEC have defensive minded head coaches.

Ed forcing to confront his own stupidity would be delicious. But the way Aranda would handle any questioning about his relationship with Ed would also be devastating in its own way. He would be exceedingly polite and deferential if questioned about it, as though he never thought about it, or realized Ed was insecure about Aranda's abilities.

I want Aranda because I think he is the best coach for the job - both long term and near term. I think Aranda is not only a top tier football coach but I think his calm demeanor and thoughtful approach is very well suited to building a Program that will be successful over a long period of time. His defensive approach has been adaptive to the changes in offense that college football has seen over the last decade. With the talent on the DL and DBs I think he can return LSU to 500 pound gorilla status quickly on the defensive side of the ball. Because of his demeanor and thoughtful approach, I think he will hire and manage a coaching staff properly. I am not overly concerned by the one common knock on Aranda, his recruiting. He has been in the college game his entire career. He has resisted the urge to jump to the NFL. And he has fielded an excellent defense with top tier defensive talent. We call LSU DBU and Aranda is largely responsible for getting a lot of that talent to LSU - those players, in part, came to LSU because of the dominant defenses Aranda built and the development of players in the system. In that regard, I think Aranda would continue to attract top tier talent to LSU.

And I have $200 on Aranda at +$1100, so there is that.
