Think about it, Oklahoma has literally 0 defense year in and year out. They get destroyed in the playoffs because of this. High powered offenses that he runs wont win in the SEC year in and year out IMO. Aranda on the other hand is a defensive minded coach who, who was also apart of the GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM OF ALL TIME. I want Aranda mainly because he's proven year in and year out that he can field a solid defense.

All of these "I prefer Aranda anyway" posts sound like people trying to rationalize the simple reality that Riley probably isn't coming here.

Either or.. Either you get Riley and a great DC or you get Aranda and try to find a great OC.

Personally, I'd rather have the offensive minded coach over the defensive, but either way you have to pair them with someone who has the strengths to their weaknesses on the other side of the ball.

I’d take either. Just need a great coordinator on the other side of the ball.

Aranda appears to have tremendous upside. Riley more proven at this point. There are no guarantees.

Maybe for some, but I sincerely go back-and-forth in my own mind about which would do better at LSU between Aranda and Riley…it’s a tough choice IMO because they’re so different.

I’m on the Riley train for sure, but I would also be very happy with an Aranda hire.

Even before the Riley talk heated up, many LSU fans are and have been high on Aranda.

So was O.

So was E.

It's a very weak argument.

Only if he brings his old OC colleague Joe Brady back with him.

It seems there are a lot more exciting elite DC options available than OC options.

I actually think that makes Riley the safer hire.

That doesn’t mean Aranda isn’t the smarter hire, it just makes him more risky.

A very integral part actually. Brady needed him, and is quick to give him credit. They were a great team.

10-9 is the smarter choice? When the other option is 54-9?

That's a 50 game wins differential.

If Aranda is offered the USC job, he will head to Southern California.

Not a bad gig for a Cali guy.

Riley doesn't give a shite about defense, tons of statistics to prove it. Riley just wants to outscore an opponent. OU should have lost to f'ing Tulane in Memorial Stadium.

Some of it is, but there is truth to it. I would gladly take Riley over anyone else, but we can't act like the softness and lack of defense that has plagued his teams isn't a potential issue. Aranda has a high ceiling, but is more unproven. Riley has a high ceiling, but is still kind of unproven because he drops big games. He hasn't consistently shown that he can scheme around an elite defense. Elite defenses abound here in the SEC.

I’ll take Riley and DC Pruitt or Elko. Can’t foresee many teams beating the combo.

This could be fixed recruiting Louisiana athletes along with firing Grinch

If think Aranda would be a great hire as long as he leaves Grimes behind. I don’t think his offense would be successful in the SEC. He would also need to hire ace recruiters. Contrary to popular belief, LSU does not recruit itself.

I still feel like Riley is a long shot. It’s going to take a lot to get Riley to leave Oklahoma. It would take considerably less to get Aranda to leave Baylor.
