Tough place to win even for a recruiting guru. Maybe Leach hires him at Tulane. That would be scary

This is pretty shitty to only be given two seasons to expect winning at Memphis. Larry was pulling in some pretty good recruits over the last two years.
Larry Porter done at Memphis

I feel the same way about the Akron coach. Yes two years is a short time, but you could clearly see the direction the program was going and it wasn't the right one. Why allow him to run it into the ground even more. Cut bait and move on.

they are one of the worst teams in D1a

Anyone who knows anything about coaching knows that two years is not enough time to turn around a shitty program. You make a choice and you give it 3-4 years. No way I would take this coaching job for any amount of money.

Tulane should seriously look at this guy.

Second worst at #183 according to the Sagarin ratings out today. So basically not only do they have 118 FBS schools rated above Memphis but also 63 FCS schools.
Like Al said, they are just clearing the way to hire Houston Nutt.

There is always a reason you never hire someone with a thin resume.

I just hope he doesn't land on another SEC staff. Tremendous recruiter at the very least.

I don't think his Texas recruiting will be quite as effective as in the past.

And still we have members of the media pushing for Tulane to hire Frank Wilson who has a similar resume.

If/when Frank Wilson gets a HC job somewhere, I have very little doubt he will be more successful than Porter.
