Unfortunately, it looks like Grimes may be retained.... I hope I'm wrong.

Y'all are forgetting that all those Bama QB's were fortunate enough to play on teams with arse kicking defenses that helped cover for their mistakes. Hell this season alone Bama's defense has bailed out Hurts' arse several times. If any of those QB's listed played on teams with average defense's, none of them would have any hardware at all.

No offense, but will he have more to work with at LSU than he did at Bama?

Kiffin turned Blake Sims into a better QB than our god, Mettenberger

Exactly, You think Blake Sims and Jake Coker are more talented than Brandon Harris or Mett. No they are not yet they sure looked a lot better.
Bama's Ol last year finished in the bottom half of the SEC in TFL and Sacks and this year is a little better. Greg Gilmore our worst defensive player and had one his best games against their OL

No one here is forgetting this. There was a thread basically saying that anyone could look good as Bama's OC with that defense.

I would argue that playing behind the best OL in CFB has helped Bama Qb's as much as the defense.

It also doesn't hurt that they've had Heisman caliber RB's to help open up the passing game and that the Bama offense is playing against completely gassed defenses in the 2nd halves of most games.

ETA all of that said, there is no doubt that Kiffin is excellent at developing Qb's. The fact that Bama can plug and play a different Qb each year with little to no dropoff is a testament to that. Not to mention he alters the offense to suit each Qb's strengths.

Remember their success also has a lot to do with a dominant OLine

So why don't we take a critical look at his time at Tennessee? Sure he was HC there but he was also the defacto OC/QB coach.

What improvements from previous years did his offenses make while he was at Tennessee?

Surely we would all agree that he would have similar talent around him at LSU than at Tennessee?

The major difference is Kiffin has had far inferior QBs to work with for various reasons and still churned out major numbers.

A Lane Kiffin QB has thrown 20+ TDs every year since he became OC in 2005.

LSU had 3 hit 20+ in that same time frame.

Kiffin has had a RB (Sims), a transfer (Coker) and a true freshman, and made them all look great. He is the real deal. But I am sure there are other options too that would be great at LSU. I would have no issues with the hiring of Kiffin. he will be light years ahead of what we have had in last nine years.

I've said it before and been blasted but Kiffin and the other Bama OCs all had the luxury of the best defense/Oline/runningback combos in the nation. They are nothing special at playcalling

no offense, but this is a complete cop out. What I absolutely loathe about these boards and arguing about coaches is most seem to take it as you are either for this guy or against him. No simply evaluating the coaches on the merits.

He makes some interesting comps to the overall Bama offense, he does leave out some relevant facts, like for example 2010 was a multi-year starter in McElroy and 2011-2013 was the same QB, the last 3 years have been different QB's with different skill sets.

He also ignores the fact that Kiffin was an OC BEFORE going to Bama and the 2005-2006 USC offense were pretty damn good, 2005 USC has a case as GOAT offense;

USC ppg pass rush ypg ypp
2004: 38.2 271.7 177.4 449.1 6.3
2005: 49.1 319.8 260.0 579.8 7.5

2004 was Norm Chow, 2005 was Kiffin, please note the primary skill players (QB, RB, WR) were the same players both years.

Kiffin's done that with first-year starters each year at QB, and this year with a true freshman.

Compare all you want with prior Bama OCs, but Kiffin's very good.

I realize he's a tool, but I don't get the negativity on him. I'd take him in a heartbeat, although I think he'll get a HC job this year.
