Obviously he'd rather be a head coach you idiot

Maybe fallback plan wasn't clear enough. You are his last resort is more accurate. You will either have to wait until he's exhausted all other options, or you'll have to move on.

quote:

peaking of fall back plans sounds like you guys are having some issues there

Not at all. It will be either Sark or Tee Martin most likely. If it isn't one of them, then it will be some other well respected coach who can recruit.

quote:

why you're so interested in a guy that saban supposedly doesn't want is odd to say the least

Here's the deal. It's obvious - and for obvious reasons - that Kiffin wants to be a HC and that Saban wants him to be a HC. If that doesn't work out, it seems that the consensus is that Kiffin will walk. His contract expires after this season and there has been no talk of an extension. That said, if Saban decides he wants to have Kiffin around for another year, you can bet he'd match whatever OC offer Lane gets and that Lane would stay where he returns his all conference QB, 4 of 5 on the line, his top 2 WRs, and his top 3 RBs.

Most Bama fans are watching this hire for two reasons: 1) we are kinda pulling for Lane to get the HC job he seeks, and 2) we are pulling for LSU fans to (again) be proven wrong on their sauces.

quote:

I'd think you'd be far more interested in what's happening in your own den, especially right now

Nothing happening in our den right now. Players are taking finals, coaches are recruiting in advance of the dead period, players won't be back on field practicing until 12/16. That said, nothing wrong in our den. Our den looks pretty comfortable right now. You say the same?

Why would Kiffin go to a mid-tier program like UCF

Well, it would be USF, not UCF. It's located in Tampa, where he and his family have extensive ties (heck, even his ex-wife's family has ties close to the area).

Their roster is pretty solid and they seem to be well positioned for a very strong 2017 season (at least, that's what the pundits say, as most assumed Taggart would have a phenomenal 2017 and get the big job after that season, but it happened a year early).

I'd be a little surprised. His family lives in LA; I thought Kiffin would head West.

He was the head coach at Tenn, Oakland, and USC. Why on earth would he go to USF?

Actually you guys are being obnoxious as hell in acting like bama is the be all end all for coaches. Lane is leaving bc he wants to leave. He's tired of Saban. Spin it how you want, but if the roles were reversed I sure as hell wouldn't be on a bama board caring one way or the other.

And yes, all is perfectly fine in my den. I don't get my sense of self worth from my favorite football teams success. I'm pretty comfortable in my life outside of LSU sports. Thank you for asking

i would take Houston over USF but thats me.

They have money, brand new ON CAMPUS stadium, and fertile recruiting ground(USF has as well obviously).

Are they going to name him as the lead candidate every time a new HC job comes open?

You spin it however you want, but if he was wanting to leave so bad, why wouldn't he already be named OC at LSU? He knows, in all reality, how it would look if he doesn't get Saban to sign off on it. And that's only likely to happen if it's a HC position or NFL OC.

It appear that he's just weighing his options and understandably so. The one thing that's obvious at this point is he won't be returning to bama next year. The only question is whether he stays through playoffs. From every credible source, he's just considering his options and that includes coming here whether you guys like it or not. He doesn't need sabans permission to do anything.

When Kiffin is hired at UH or USF, who will be the first sauce to report "Orgeron to be Kiffin's DL coach"?

As of this weekend, not true

Sark is falling off Sabans radar. Kiffin might be re-signed

So what will the talking point be if he is, somehow, the OC at Bama next season?

He won't be, but if he is you guys would be miserable judging from all the bashing you've done of him the past couple of weeks. Sounds like y'all don't want him, so the talking points would change I'm sure. They always do.

I've not bashed him. I think he's a good OC (would like to see him be a little less "cute" at times, though). That said, I'm not overly concerned with having to defend against him given that Saban has had him in house for 3 years and likely knows him and his tendencies fairly well.

quote:

Sounds like y'all don't want him

Well, there is a reason Saban didn't extend his contract beyond this year. He could have done so with zero buyout for a HC job to make sure that Kiffin had every chance at such a role without buyout penalty. Not only did they NOT do that, they didn't extend at all. Again, likely a reason.

That much being said, look at Lane's own words about Bama:

Want to coach through the CFP?
quote:

“Yeah,” he said, with a laugh. “If they’ll have me. You can ask coach that.”

Would you consider coming back as OC in 2017?
quote:

“Yeah, sure do,” he said. “I’m happy to be here. Coach and I talked about it this week. What a great experience it’s been. All the different quarterbacks. Building it together. And we’ll keep going from here.”

Sounds like the choice, as has been said all along, isn't his, but if he is given the option of OC at Bama (without HC offers) then he'd return.

Tampa Bay Tribune writer Joey Knight
Nothing shocks me anymore, but some of my most valued #USF sources can't see Judy Genshaft going for Kiffin.
