Josh McDaniels seeking head coaching opportunity

It’s an annual tradition for Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to field questions about possibly leaving for a head coaching job with another team.
This hasn’t been a winning season for the Patriots, but McDaniels is still seen as a possible candidate for openings around the league this offseason. On Tuesday, he confirmed general interest in another head coaching chance.
“Absolutely. I definitely want to do that,” McDaniels said, via Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com. “I’d love to have that opportunity if it presents itself.”
McDaniels went 11-17 as the Broncos head coach in 2009 and 2010 and backed out of the Colts job after initially accepting it in January 2018. He interviewed with the Browns before they hired Kevin Stefanski last year and with the Packers before they hired Matt LaFleur in 2019.

I don’t follow the nfl, how did he do that?

He had an agreement a few years ago to be the Colts head coach and ended up backing out at the last minute after already hiring a couple dudes for positions for his staff.
It was kind of weird, only explanation that would make sense was that he got some intel about Luck thinking about retirement or the medical history on luck scared him away.
Their DC currently is actually the guy that McDaniels hired for them, and they retained him when they hired Reich

No doubt. Reich is a solid head coach. Josh McDaniels will be a disaster for the franchise that hires him.

To be fair he has by far the worst set of QBs and receivers/tight ends in the league.

Even with brady the last couple years, that offense was stale

Man, they are really low on talent. Like really low.

In 2019, with a terrible WR group, they were 9th in YPG and 10th in PPG.

Yeah and they’ve had plenty of chances to be a good offense the last few seasons but that lack of talent held them back
He’s done a really good job this year putting guys in positions to be successful and they shite their pants instead. Cam has had trouble making quick and decisive decisions which has hamstrung the entire offense and then when he does make a good throw and decision, it’s met with a lot of drops and inability to make a play on the ball when not wide open
I mean they got literally zero out of the TE position the last two years, and started Demyre Byrd most of the season, who is a decent player but at best he’s a WR4 for a decent team.
He gets a little too cute and obvious with the screen game at times but given what he’s had to work with, he’s done a good job.

That offense would've been fine if they actually had some receivers.
Mcdaniels is actually a great offensive coordinator.
Head coach? Not so much.

Maybe it was a personal issue, like his wife threatening to divorce him or something.

I doubt it. He just wants to make sure that next chance he gets is the perfect one because he knows it’s his last chance, and Jim Irsay isn’t the most stable owner in the league
Guessing he heard things he didn’t like about Luck possibly retiring or never getting healthy and didn’t want to get stuck with no QB and sketchy ownership. In hindsight a poor decision based on how well Chris Ballard has drafted and built that team.
