re: Joel Klatt: “LSU and Ole Miss have a blank check for Kiffin”

That is not an ideal model at all. Look at Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, Alabama…their rosters are focused on high school evaluations and making sure they stay with the program to develop.
LSU’s recruiting advantage couldn’t be farther from diminished. We just need a coach who isn’t a fricking philandering baboon

I never said Kiffin is going to LSU. I said he won’t be at Ole Miss next year.

In what world do they offer Kiffin 13 a year, with LSU’s staffing budget, and 25-30 million a year in NIL? There’s no way
Eventually the NIL BS has to be capped right?! I just don't see programs consistently dishing out $25-$30mil/year to build rosters.
Maybe I'm wrong I just don't see how thats a consistent budget to expect....

Kiffin would dominate at LSU after the first mulligan year of his tenure. If he were to come here, have a decent DC, access to a $20-25 million a year NIL roster, I'm hanging more title posters to my mancave over the next 10 years.
One can hope.

I think Klatt is correct on this. Florida has always been a mess in coaching searches which is why they settle for guys like Sunbelt Billy. You think LSU is a problem look at Florida's AD and front office. I absolutely believe they put stipulations up and said nope, too rich for our blood. He's not taking less to go to Florida.

If anything, LSU's recruiting advantage has been diminished in this era of college football. Ole Miss doesn't have to fight HS recruiting battles with the likes of LSU, Alabama, Texas, etc. They can largely bypass those battles and build a roster with transfers...which they have done with good success.
You can't build a consistent winner by relying on the transfer portal. Ideally, you develop and retain, and then cherry pick a few studs each year to fill gaps.

If Ole Miss has this endless well of cash to keep up with LSU, then how come LSU absolutely boat raced Ole Miss for every single prospect they went after last season?
And I’m not saying they’d don’t have the resources to make the job very appealing, and Kiffin may very well stay. I just think it’s a fairytale to think there is any practical way for Ole Miss’ football budget to somehow exponentially grow to the LSU, Georgia, Oregon, etc of the world. Is someone giving a 9 figure donation?!?

We shall see I guess. I think Lane Kiffin will be Florida’s next HC. I believe that’s where he sees himself coaching the next 5-10 years.

They're offering to match LSU punch-for-punch with his salary and roster. All he gets at LSU is a headache rebuild and a less livable location than Oxford. Why not just stay where you're at in a nice city in Oxford, less expectations, and keep building what you already built? I don't see it.
He (Lane) talked about this earlier in the week. He mentioned that some of these blue blood schools get kids if everything else is equal or even less in some cases. You think that applies to LSU? Heck yeah. So I think $20M goes further for LSU (and Florida) than Ole Miss. Just my two cents.

Ole Miss boat raced LSU the previous year on NIL transfers or did you pay attention to that? You think it was a coincidence they poached their front office?
Recruiting HS is just money now. Match that you get the recruit. The advantages for region don't matter anymore.

If that’s the case then why isn’t Ole Miss’ recruiting class top 5?! If it’s just money, and Ole Miss has the endless well you’re suggesting, then how come they haven’t poached every single guy Lane Kiffin actually wants?
And yes, LSU’s NIL was very unorganized from the outset. We are lucky Austin Thomas came back to the program. But every insider has indicated this is just the beginning if the right coach comes along.

We may offer a blank check. Can't promise it won't bounce.
Governor would be like: "offer him a blank check, but tell him to wait until Friday to cash it."

Maybe Ole Miss thinks transfers are how you win NCs and have higher emphasis on transfer portal. Most colleges do now. Under BK LSU put emphasis under both. Kiffin is actually not a banger recruiter through his history. If you look at his history you would think he was elite but he's really not. Maybe that has something to do with it too. So I can see what he means by blue bloods have a very slight advantage. However, Saban had it right as well in that schools like LSU with inbuilt advantages have diminished in this era.

Classic small thinking by the average ranter who doesn’t even contribute to the university. The numbers and facts suggest LSU is a top 5 job.

LSU factually bought multiple transfers lane kiffin wanted. I don’t understand what’s so confusing about LSU having a much larger budget. There isn’t even anything to debate. LSU’s slush fund and operating budget is far superior. And maybe that won’t be enough to sway him to leave, but that doesn’t make it untrue.

If this “blank check” noise is true, LSU deserves to continue being mediocre.
NEVER pay someone before they cut & edge your yard.

BK is not leaving the cupboard bare. The support infrastructure is in place and there is talent on the roster. It just needs the right coach. This isn’t the situation BK inherited.
Lane is going to the playoffs with a Div 2 QB, his scheme alone would improve LSU’s win total next year.

This is debatable. BR and LA certainly get shite on by this board, let’s not act like Oxford, MS is the garden of eden.

There some very nice places to choose from in BR and surrounding areas. It's not like a coach would move into north BR off Plank Road.

Not to mention poaching Lane’s GM and multiple recruiting staffers in consecutive years

You guys are going to be sooooo disappointed on the choice. The delusions are astounding and hilarious.
