Jacksonville tv reporting Del Rio offered by USC.

Word is USC offered DelRio. Del Rio denies it and said it was a fabrication and to "Let things play out"> Del Rio meets with Weaver today to discuss his future in Jacksonville.

JDR is the BEST available coach and if it were not for Skip fricking up the process, would be the LSU coach right now. Skip was arrogant and would allow the NFL season to end -- one week to give JDR time to honor his commitment to the Jags.

are you so naive that you don't believe that LSU and Del Rio were communicating about the job anyway? Del Rio wasn't coming here. Even if he did, there's no guarantee that he would have succeeded since he's never coached at college level. Finally, We'd be looking for a new coach because he'd be going to USC now.

I really hope that LSU did not seriously consider Jack Del Rio.
He would have been a failure at LSU.
He is most definitely NOT the "best coach available". At least, not for a college team.
Check out this Link from Stewart Mandel (SI).
To sum it up, the only coach hired from the NFL to college that had ANY success was Pete Carroll. Every other coach hired from the NFL to college failed to win a BCS game, and only 1 (Weiss at ND) even made a BCS game.
So leave the JDR talk behind. Had we hired him to replace Saban, we would be looking for a new coach now, but that would be because he would have been fired.

Agree. Many times, a new coach brings excitement, along with new recruits.
There are a few coaches I would hate to lose if they were on staff at LSU but it doesn't always mean the end of the world.

doesn't bother me the slightest so long as they win while they're here. Up until 2007, I doubt that Del Rio would have done better than Miles, so it's irrelevant to that point. Del Rio may have had us with a better record the past 2 years, but not in a NC game, IMO. My point was that we would now be looking for a coach late in the game, even later than when Saban left.

pretty misleading when most of that list is made up of guys like John Bunting and Karl Dorrell who were bottom feeding NFL position coaches like Les Miles. Dave Wannstedt isn't doing too shabby at pitt for a guy who was pretty shitty in the NFL at multiple stops.

The point is that only one coach who was bred in the NFL realized any success in college. That cannot be refuted.
Wannstedt is doing okay. Keeping his head above water. Still, he's averaging a robust 7 wins per season.
My point about Del Rio having been fired from LSU by this point is a logical conclusion - not a certainty - based on the data.

That's right. That's my opinion. But its based on the fact that none of the coaches bred in the NFL had any success in college. Yes, even coaches that were NFL HEAD COACHES prior to getting collegiate jobs.
I have thought this for years, and it is nice to see Mandel put some data to the theory.

Most NFL coaches see college as glorified little league. You're sitting here acting like there's a long line of guys with JDR's NFL credentials that have gone back to college and failed. Al Groh, Chan Gailey, Mike Sherman and Bill Callahan is a fricking murderers row of coaches, let me tell ya.

Les Miles is a certified retard and he is still gainfully employed. There might not be a coach in the country junior high and up who could've taken what Saban left and been fired by now.
