Dave Wannstedt was a NFL head coach for something like 8-10 years.

Recruiting was always a concern for me when his name kept getting tossed around for the LSU job. Going to USC though it's almost a moot point.
The level of difficulty in recruiting to sunny California compared to recruiting to Baton Rouge is completely different.

you can LOL all you want. I'm not saying he couldn't do it, just that you have no way of knowing till he had the job.

I consider he had 2 good years, and the future looks very bright for his program.

Why are LSU fans all on JDR's nuts? I see him as a bust at USC. There is a reason he was SOO far down on USC's list.

I think he was further down than that.
Taking the USC job right now is like jumping on a grenade. The hammer will be dropped and will make it very hard for USC to be successful.

If your opinion is that Les Miles is an idiot and the team could have coached itself for three ever-loving years after the departure of Nick Saban, there is nothing I can do to help you.
But my point is to everyone who currently thinks that Del Rio should be USC's first (actually second) choice or that he should have been given more serious consideration when LSU hired Miles. There is no evidence to support this conclusion. NONE. Pete Carroll is the only exception to the rule.
That means that the burden of proof is on those to think that Del Rio, or any NFL-bred coach, will be successful as a college head coach.

Del Rio's record as head coach of the Jaguars:
2003: 5-11
2004: 9-7
2005: 12-5 (lost in WC round)
2006: 8-8
2007: 12-6 (1-1 in the playoffs)
2008: 5-11
2009: 7-9
Totals: 58-57, including 1-2 in the playoffs.
3 winning seasons out of 7.
Clearly, this guy is one of the elite coaches in the NFL. Who wouldn't want him to head their program. I mean, gosh, if he can produce these results in the NFL, just imagine the wild success he would have in college! He's ONE GAME over .500 for his seven year career! Who among us would not kill to have that sort of record?!?!?! /sarcasm

There's a clear difference between Saban and Del Rio. I feel bad for you that I have to point this out, but here it is.
Saban had previous success in college. Even won a National Championship.
Del Rio has zero (0) years of college coaching experience. Even as an assistant.

Del Rio hasn't coached college because he was 100 times the player and twice the defensive coach Saban was. He's been busy.

if you didn't GA at Kent State, you can't keep up with the Xs and Os of the big time NCAA. Its a whole 'nother level compared to that shitty NFL.

He hasn't proven he can recruit. Neither have most of the elite coaches in the NFL. This has to be the worst reasoning I've ever read when questioning a potential hire of JDR.
His defensive acumen is at least the equal of Saban. He's had success at the NFL level. If you know anything about the NFL, you would know a 58-57 record is respectable.
If USC hires JDR, I'll go on record as saying USC will win more national titles under JDR than they did under Carroll, and if Skip had the opportunity to hire Del Rio and f'd it up and instead hired Miles, that's the worst decision possibly ever made by an athletic director.
