This. Jimbo is probably the best coach in the nation at making halftime adjustments.

Boxcar Willie, you said Jimbo compares to Miles when he first got here. You do know that Jimbo was here running the offense then. Besides 2007, how has the offense looked since Jimbo left? I know we won't have all the clock management blunders like we had under Miles. Plus the offense won't be restricted to "playing in a phone booth." If he would make the right DC hire, I could definitely see him averaging over 10 wins and have us in the hunt for the SEC Championship and Playoffs almost every year. I just don't get why so many people are against Jimbo. Everyone wants an offensive minded coach. Look at Jimbo's defenses besides this year. We would have consistentcy on both sides of ball. Something we rarely had with Miles. I am not saying he will win us 7-8 National Championships, but I could see 1-2 and 3-5 SEC West titles in the next 10 years. There are certainly much worse options.

However, if you're talking about coaching ability I disagree. Miles never had a prowess for any part of the game equal to what Jimbo brings. Jimbo brings elite QB development and play-calling/adjusting. Miles never really brought anything by way of coaching prowess.
I disagree. Jimbo brings more in offense x and o's, but (early years ) Miles brought more in leadership and motivator. I think its about a wash as far as overall coaching abilities comparing current Jimbo to early years at LSu Miles. But that's not a bad thing, early years Miles was a pretty dam good coach.
I would give a slight edge to early years Miles.
I think we can do better.

I'm not even arguing with you guys anymore. Its pointless.
I trust alleva will hire someone other than O.

He definitely is. Its refreshing

This is frankly such a bullshite metric, no offense. It's basically contrived in order to fill the gaps to explain why Miles had the success he did. Miles won because he had an incredible level of talent and program infrastructure when he arrived. The SEC West was a joke when compared to now, and he was able to surround himself with quality assistants, especially on the defensive side.

Do we really want a coach who left Mickey hanging?

Agreed, personally I think it's verbally done and has been, save maybe the signatures. This coaching search has been going on for months, not weeks.
Herman may very well end up being the better coach, time will tell, but the Jimbo-LSU "fits" just make Jimbo a slam-dunk easy hire... Probably one of the easiest home run run hires in CFB history, which is crazy since he's obviously got a great gig at Florida State.
His success, offensive background and philosophy, connections and recruiting, QB development, all - on paper - put LSU in title contention immediately and pave the way for a seamless transition into the post-Miles era.
I have no doubt LSU is going to cover its bases in case something crazy goes down (Herman, Fedora, Mullen, etc), but I think all signs point to Jimbo or O at this point.
It's really a pretty easy call... 2 realistic home run hires out there as far as the public is concerned; Jimbo and Herman. One is a known, safe pick that would widely be looked at as a solid hire, the other is a relatively unknown "hot name" gamble with very limited HC experience. I get the attraction to Herman, I really do, especially for an offense-starved fanbase, but there's no way LSU takes Herman over Jimbo if both are willing to come. IMO the only way it gets to Herman is if Jimbo passes or makes crazy demands, Which I don't believe he will. I think LSU is lining up PlanBCDEF so that Jimbo knows we aren't going "all in" on him like we did last year. Jimbo had us by the balls last year and I think that might have partially contributed to us getting cold feet.
I don't mean to knock Herman, I'm sure he'd be great, but some people have gone overboard on Herman... He doesnt yet deserve the hype he gets from some. There is 0 chance LSU takes Tom Herman over Jimbo Fisher if both want the job.

Very fair assessment. I agree Herman may have more upside, but definitely more risk. The last 2 Houston coaches have all been very successful and gotten big jobs. Sumlin has just been okay as of now.
Jimbo is the safest bet to win an NC in the next 4-5 years.

Jimbo every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
He is the epitome of a home run hire in my book.
Fisher and Aranda combo would be incredible.
Over time I think people will realize just how much of a liability Miles was as a Gameday coach. Fisher would rarely get out coached/schemed. With Miles it was the norm.

If Jimbo would keep the defensive staff then I would call it a home run hire. There are too many established recruiters on that side of the ball to go along with Aranda to just lose.
I would rather keep CEO for an extra year than break up this staff as long as the Tigers do well with him as HC.

If jimbo wants to replace aranda with Charles Kelly then he is unfit for the job. jimbo is too smart for that.

I've been saying since last year that Jimbo will be our next HC, and I'm sticking with it.

I love coach BeBe. you can tell his heart and soul is with this program. He loves LSU and bleeds purple and gold. Where herman may or may not use LSU as a stepping stone into the NFL like Saban.
This. He WANTS to be here and I dont think he'd ever let himself get apathetic like les did. Younger guys wont tolerate our BS fanbase and will take the money every time.
I also dont trust Alleva not to make a knee jerk reaction and hire some bum

We will see what happens. If BeBe beats bama, give him the job.
I love O too...but this can't be an emotional decision. O getting a pretty talented roster to get up for a home game and knocking off Bama earning him the job would be short sighted.

Give me the up and coming coach, not the coach currently fizzling out at a top tier program. Jimbo would lead us to more 10-2 seasons which is exactly the reason that Les was fired. He will be Les part 2
Herman coaches his players up
Spot on. The guy who the game is catching up with and he talks to damn fast to figure why it's passing him by

If we get Jimbo, we are getting a younger version of Miles (maybe some stylistic differences, but about equal in quality) . Like what Miles was when he first arrived here at LSU. Not such a bad thing. We did win a national championship under that scenario. Only problem is that Bama is much better than they were at that time, so it is going to take more than a younger Miles to get back on top.
But to go back to those 10-2 years and have some national relevance, even if we play second or third fiddle in the SEC is still pretty good.
can't see us being the cellar dwellers of the SEC west with Fisher at least.
Preach!

yea that motivation really worked out in the 2nd half of Tennessee in 05 or when we were running into 9 man boxes in 06 Auburn. How was that leadership at 07 Kentucky or Arkansas at home with a NC berth on the line
