It's an analogy to make the right hire, not an emotional one.

Biggest difference in my example is that LSU football is much more prestigious than LSU basketball and no way in fricking hell is Ed O qualified to get the LSU head coaching job

Kelly/Herman = #1a/#1b

Jimbo Fisher = a very close second

Everyone else = Third and a likely disappointment, unless something utterly unexpected happened.

As in developed him? Because Davey signed with LSU in 1997. Fisher was still at Auburn as a QB coach.

ummm rohan was developed by jimbo in 2000 and 2001

morris watts may deserve some credit in 1998 but do you really think Bob McConnel developed rohan in 1999?

He's won 3 of the last 4.

Chip Kelly had no ties to the west coast either and he sure ended up there didn't he?

That being said, we're fricking dumb if we take Jimbo over Tom Herman, plain and simple.

Reunite Herman and Aranda!

If we pass on an opportunity to get Herman, we will regret it

Yup, Jimbo was a one hit wonder like gene chizik. He got lucky having a heisman winner on his team.

I'd rather Jimbo than Herman, honestly.

Me too. He's proven. I'll surely get a bunch of downvotes for saying this, but frick it..... Herman could be the next Greg Schiano for all we know. He's 1.5 years into his HC career, and while he's done pretty well, who knows how he responds when he steps up to the big leagues.

If Herman did become the LSU HC and do great things, the "Herman to the NFL" talk would become a yearly thing.

I think people are overplaying the "herman to the NFL talk". doesn't Herman kiss his players before the game? Doesn't he do the "Dabo funky monkey" dance thingy? What sort of universe do you live in that makes you think that is what the NFL is looking for? Some coaches style obviously just can't cross over to the NFL

If we get Jimbo, we are getting a younger version of Miles (maybe some stylistic differences, but about equal in quality) . Like what Miles was when he first arrived here at LSU. Not such a bad thing. We did win a national championship under that scenario. Only problem is that Bama is much better than they were at that time, so it is going to take more than a younger Miles to get back on top.

But to go back to those 10-2 years and have some national relevance, even if we play second or third fiddle in the SEC is still pretty good.

can't see us being the cellar dwellers of the SEC west with Fisher at least.

If you're talking about results, then yeah I agree about the younger Miles. Fact is the SEC West is harder now so 10-2 is more impressive than in 2005-2007.

However, if you're talking about coaching ability I disagree. Miles never had a prowess for any part of the game equal to what Jimbo brings. Jimbo brings elite QB development and play-calling/adjusting. Miles never really brought anything by way of coaching prowess.
