Is tonight kind of an audition for Jon Sumrall ?

Don’t get me wrong big time schools will still be going after him regardless of tonight’s result but if his team goes on the road with a business- like mindset and dominates I can see interest in him heating up even more especially from us.

i bet most LSU fans will be tuning in when they normally wouldn't. kinda like the 2016 memphis/houston game.

I could see LSU backing off if Sumrall struggles down the stretch but the Auburn/ Arkansas/ Kentucky types will probably still have interest

I honestly don't think they've played all that well this year despite the record
I watched most of the army game and that was about as ugly as you could get, and needed a near miracle catch by Preston to win the game.
I thought Retzlaff would be better

LSU does not need another Napier.

He is exactly what I thought he would be. He is more of an athlete than a qb. Our OC also isn't that great.
Honestly the Army game has pretty much been how our season has been minus the Northwestern game (we only scored 3 points in 2nd half) and the arse beating by Ole Miss.
While I am very happy to be 6-1 this team could easily be 2-5 right now.

Am I missing something? They play UTSA, who has a losing record
What would this prove or disprove

Will this ever stop?. He’s not on a power team’s A-list. And he’s not going to one of these can’t win schools that reside in power conferences unless he just loves his alma mater that much. Memphis and USF’s coaches are in the same position and aren’t subjected to this 24/7. Enough.

Don’t forget he lost 5 games last season and got boat raced by a service academy
He’s obviously going to a bigger job as he should. This cycle is his opportunity for a big payday
I do believe the media has anointed him as the next great SEC coach while I haven’t seen anything on the field to support that

Yeah when I pointed out the issues Tulane has had under him I was told that I was delusional and should be happy to be 6-1.
While I am happy to be 6-1 its not like we looked like in 98.
As I said in other threads Sumrall would benefit by staying a year or two more at Tulane, getting rid of (or hope UAB hires) Braddock. Then hire someone like Gary Patterson or Jerry Kill as some sort of assistant or consultant to help him grow as a coach.

He’s not going to do that. One bad season and he’s stuck
Never saw Sumrall as a guy who was interested in building anything or growing here, and that’s fine. Tulane needs to keep hiring these mercenary types

I totally understand that and agree that he wouldn't do that. However that definitely benefit him in the long run.
And I have no problem with coaches using us to get a better job. Im fine with using the Boise St method. I remember talking with Coach Hall after he was hired here the first time and I said 'coach I hope in a couple of years you are a head coach coaching against us'.
If other schools aren't interested in your coaches it means you aren't successful. We just better hope that our AD is good at making hires

Yeah, agree with your assessment
Alot of the 6-1 shine is not as good as it seems, team has holes and has been surviving week to week

I never expected him to be here more than a couple of years. Just don't take our season down with him. Distractions got to our team last year too; although that was more Mensah not wanting to mess up his deal with Duke.

Sumrall isn’t a bad option
And UTSA has a beast of a RB if he’s healthy
