Or was he just a Bad fit at Texas ?

You never know what can happen, Herman has got rid of Tracy Armstrong as his Agent and has hired Jimmy Sexton.

Interesting Read Below

Texas' problem was not Tom Herman, it's Texas — and Oklahoma

No doubt Herman looks back and regrets his Texas>LSU decision. May be the biggest regret he ever makes in his career.

He won’t go immediately to a top 20 job. He will be like Bert and have to start at an Illinois type school or G5 to get his stock up.

Lol. Black guy must be a Súper bowl champion with no losing seasons. White guy just has to have a few winning seasons at USL.

Third time I've posted this same post, but this topic keeps coming up:

Charlie Strong was 16-21 (0.432) at Texas and 5-7 his last year.
Herman went 32-18 (0.640) and won 4 straight bowl games.
Herman is replaced by Sarkisian who is currently 4-3 (0.571)

The optics are not right for LSU to hire him, but I still think Herman is a hell of a football coach. I also think he would have been incredibly successful here if LSU had gotten him the first time.

Adding to previous post…

Herman took over UT after Charlie Strong had 3 consecutive losing seasons.

Herman left UT after putting together multiple top 3 recruiting classes.

He came into a worse situation, left a much better situation, and still had the best winning percentage of the 3.

He averaged 8 wins per season at UT, including a shortened 2020 Covid season.

His overall winning percentage of .711 would be the highest winning percentage of any incoming LSU coach since at least Paul Dietzel.

Dude is a very good coach…kissing and all.

No one cares if we hire a black coach, we just don’t won’t Mel damn Tucker because there are plenty of more qualified candidates such as Mike Tomlin and Dave Aranda.

You realize those four were the Sugar bowl, one Texas bowl, and two Alamo bowls? That's not that impressive.

I've seen ya'll keep defending Herman on this board and its ridiculous. Yes his win percentage was better but he had terrible losses he shouldn't have.(losing twice to Maryland, losing so many to unranked opponents) His recruiting was ranked high but he had terrible instate misses that damned him. He couldn't get the top recruits to Texas and that is why they changed. I will admit though that Sark was a curious choice and the timing was weird.

Perhaps things would have been different at LSU, but his inability to get the best Texas recruits to stay home and his loses every year to less talented teams cost him his job. You had Texas legacy prospects even opening saying they were going to Alabama or Ohio State because "Texas doesn't develop players"

Texas players negatively recruit against Texas

quote:

Current players are leaving, and recruits are looking elsewhere. Then, Del Conte learned that some players currently on the roster were doing negative recruiting, telling some not to come to UT. It’s not unusual for disgruntled, outgoing players to talk negatively about a coaching staff they don’t like, though.

quote:

Recruiting issues were one of the factors that pushed the Herman era to the brink in the first place — after a 7-5 regular season in 2019, Herman fired both of his coordinators and replaced five more assistant coaches, a complete restructuring of his staff that behind the Longhorns in a position of playing catch up with the 2021 recruiting class.

Hindered by the pandemic, Texas was never able to catch up with its rivals, forcing Herman to sign a group of prospects that represented the lowest-ranked non-transition class for the Horns in the modern era of recruiting.

Instate Recruiting Failures loom large in Dismissal

quote:

What doomed Herman? The simple answer is too many bad losses and average recruiting. Herman went 32-18 at Texas, which is not a good mark for a blueblood program that should have a decisive recruiting advantage in a talent-laden state. He was 22-13 in the Big 12, a conference that is widely recognized as a step below the SEC, Big Ten and perhaps even the ACC. Losing to Maryland, TCU and Texas Tech in his first season wasn't a great start, but losses to Iowa State (twice), Baylor and again TCU in the last couple of years really helped seal his fate. Heck, even the Longhorns' lucky, overtime win over Texas Tech this past September hurt his status. The only in-conference loss that should be somewhat palatable at Texas is an occasional setback against arch-rival Oklahoma. That's about it. That wasn’t happening.

quote:

From a recruiting perspective, too many high-profile prospects ended up out-of-state under Herman’s watch. That was never more pronounced than during the 2021 recruiting cycle, with Longhorn legacies Tommy and James Brockermeyer spurning Texas for Alabama. That was simply embarrassing for Herman. Ewers' commitment led to talented 2021 signal caller Jalen Milroe to bolt for the Crimson Tide. And Texas was never in it for elite prospects like Bryce Foster, Camar Wheaton, Donovan Jackson or Tunmise Adeleye.

In Herman's first year recruiting at Texas, Lone Star State products Marvin Wilson, Walker Little, Baron Browning, Jeffrey Okudah, J.K. Dobbins and CeeDee Lamb all got away. Excuses could be made because it was a transitional class for Herman but losing prospects like Jaylen Waddle, Theo Wease, DeMarvin Leal, Kenyon Green, Erick Young, Demond Demas, Jaxson Smith-Njigba, Jaylon Jones and others added up.

How could Herman recruit so poorly at Texas? I have no idea.
