The elders/veterans need to speak on how this compares to the 1999 and 2004 coaching search.

I would say it's the year with the most so called insiders who know nothing

It’s been pretty exciting so far and the season isn’t even over yet.

CCB was just a twinkle in the eye of one of Circus Child’s sperm in those days.

99 was as wide open as this but LSU wasn’t swimming in the same pond as now.

2004 had some names (Del Rio, Petrino) but wasn’t quite as wild as this.

The biggest difference is how much earlier this started and this how much longer it’s going. Saban didn’t announce he was leaving until Christmas Day and by New Years we had Les.

Dinardo was fired basically now on the calendar and Saban was in place in 2-3 weeks IIRC.

Washington, USC, Texas Tech, TCU, LSU, Florida, Virginia Tech, Miami (maybe), and whoever else I missed. Quite the list.

I think I like it better when LSU isn't looking for a coach

The 2017 Coaching Changes Board saw LSU replace Matt Canada, Tennessee's spectacularly bad search to replace Butch Jones, and a host of other big name schools replace their head coach, including Florida, Texas A&M, Florida State, Oregon, UCLA, Nebraska, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Miss State.

Just replacing Miles was more exciting than this year. There were some good looking candidates and a hated AD whose job was on the line. ESPN crashed a press box to grill Herman about having already accepted the LSU job in the middle of a game (probably orchestrated by Texas boosters). There were legitimate leaks that caused LSU and others to change strategy. Eventually Alleva just threw his hands up in the air and declared 'screw it, it's this guy' and we got O.

This year is all speculation with no intrigue or saucy sauces.

The Miles hiring was fun as there was a ton of speculation Spurrier was headed to LSU.

2016 for better or for worse had way more drama. We had Herman back out at the last second than hired Ed Orgeron who’s only permanent head coaching experience was a massive failure at ole miss. So you had people vehemently hating hiring orgeron with a massive amount of evidence to back them up and then you had the south Louisiana one of us crowd taking it personally that someone like them shouldn’t be the head coach at LSU.

It’s like the pro and anti Napier crowdx10

I say this as an anti Napier guy. I have my reasons on why I think he should not be high on the list at all but he wouldn’t be a failure of a hire like Ed was

I’d say so.

If Kiffin bolts to a better job, and while I don’t think Leach is going anywhere, more dominoes could fall

It has been exciting because it started so early and fans are free to speculate on HC candidates who have absolutely no intention of coming to LSU.

I think the mood on the board will change drastically after the season is over and big name target after big name target sign extensions with their current schools. LSU is going to sign one of the guys at the bottom of the current list of candidates if they are lucky but, in the end, the new HC will be largely unknown to the casual fan.

I hope I’m wrong though.
