Poor fan support, poor facilities, strict academic requirements. It's not what it is made out to be

Well they just opened a new indoor practice facility so can't really say poor anymore.

But given what they were 18 years ago they should've been leading the charge on cutting-edge facilities.

If you can convince kids to go there, sure.

No. Awful facilities. Very small recruiting budget (though you shouldn’t have to go far to find talent). It’s a private school and the administration is not going to put a lot of money into the program.
Miami has come and gone. It will never again be the powerhouse it was 20 years ago.
Florida and Florida State will one day be back. Miami will not.

USC, Stanford and Notre Dame are private schools too. Most programs are financed with booster money and shared revenue from the conference. Right now the ACC is lagging behind considerably In revenue but they will be competitive when the ACC Network is launched later this year. Miami’s problems aren’t anything that one great QB can’t fix.

USC, Stanford and Notre Dame are all private schools with vastly more resources and money than Miami. Agreed one great QB could put them in the chase for a few years but Miami doesn’t have the fan support or even an on-campus stadium generating revenue. Sustained success even with such fertile recruiting grounds nearby is a harder thing to achieve at Miami than it is at the other three schools you mentioned.

Those three schools have a fan base win or lose. Miami only has a fan base when they are winning.

This ain't Ga Tech fricking around with actually making you go to class. Miami hasn't produced all those probowlers by being strict academically. They'll do what needs to be done.

Making the decision to play football in another team’s cavernous stadium 25 miles away in the boonies was a miscalculation.

The tightening of academic standards is a recent thing after their big run. UM administration was embarrassed by the reputation + scandals brought by the football team

Miami is still a very good job because of the name recognition and the fact that it's smack dab in the middle of some of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the entire nation.

I'd say it's at the top of second-tier jobs.

Could be a solid job. They have just hired a string of mediocre coaches. And richt was still burned out from uga.

Until they get their own facilities and stadium.

I still cant believe they didnt invest in their program in the 80s, early 90s and when Butch was there when it came to facilities.
