The Okie State program is in better shape today than when Miles departed. You really can't compare Miles at Okie St, a BCS school, to Dooley at La Tech in the WACdue to funding. Dooley coached under Saban do you think Nick would have ever selected Les to on his staff in any profesional capacity?

UT's ad just fricked this whole thing, he was dead set on meeting his deadline to salvage recruiting he didn't give proper time for the after math of the week's events to unfold.

You wait a little bit and see if anyone comes out and expresses some interest. Dooley wasn't going anywhere.

As a fricking tight end coach? sure

La Tech should be better in the WAC than Okie State should be in the Big-12 based on natural advantages, yet Miles' record is far superior to Dooley's

then it's back to being a coordinator for the rest of his career.

Well, there's another thing. He was never even a coordinator. Tech never had great offenses and their defenses were mediocre/bad.

Les Miles has never been a coordinator. He was a damn TE coach with Dallas. He has won at LSU only becuase lSU has super facilities and he has a damn near unlimited budget. Our staff is way over paid in an effort try to cover for Les' deficiences. What is his strengths as on the field coach? The OL? Please say no after this year.

Dooley's rough around the edges but he's got potential at this point.

Tech didn't win a whole lot of games but they seemed to play hard.

He's kind of an unknown at this point. Not a bad coach, imo, but not really great at this point either. It's kind of a gamble but they didn't have much choice

Derek Dooley has been a....

WRs coach for 3 years
TEs coach for 3 years
RBs coach for 3 years

HC for 3 years.

So, he's never been a coordinator, nor has he ever coached the defensive side of the ball, yet he's got a lot of upside?

His DC and OC hires better be freaking amazing or his arse is going to fired really quick. This is why if UT is really smart and doesn't want to throw next season away, they are best to hire Chavis. 3rd through 5th year players are already versed to his system and the change won't be as drastic as a brand new coordinator for the 3rd year in a row. Given they are paying Dooley cheap to get him (I'd hope at least), they can afford say $800k-$900k for Chavis.

SFP...serious question, what coach meets your standards?

Who do you think is good...and don't tell us the obvious..Urban and Nick etc....

someone that is not as well known that has it all?

Who are you positive about?

SFP you know nothing about the Tech program if you think Dooley has done nothing there. He was hurt badly by injuries this season and has a lot of talent on the team right now, probably the most talent ever. I really think this would have been his year.

He was moldling the team into his team and it took a few years to do this. The next coach will win there due to the work Dooley has done.

I think he will succeed at Tenn.

Neither was Urban Meyer or Jim Harbaugh.

I'm saying Dooley did very well, especially considering he was also AD. You are STRICTLY judging him on wins/losses. Yet you Miles haters shove down our throats constantly that it's more than just wins and losses. I just ask that you be fricking consistent.

Dooley has upgraded facilities, upgraded the talent(had a lot of redshirts this year and transfers who were sitting out that will pay off next year and beyond), raised a shite-ton of money, put more people in the seats, and just changed the overall culture at Tech.

And both of them had MUCH more impressive HC resumes before they were hired by BCS schools.

I'm well aware of that, I'm just saying while it's good to hire someone with coordinating experience, it's not like there haven't been coaches out there who haven't had success without being a coordinator at one point.
