“Warning to Ole Miss fans, he likes analytics”

You say that as if it’s a bad thing. I think that’s much more preferable than making decisions based on “that’s the way it’s always been done”. Whether it’s Napier or someone else, I really hope whoever OM ends up with is smart and forward thinking enough to incorporate analytics to gain an edge.

I think it was sarcasm. It's like someone who says "I work to hard" as one of their weaknesses

What's not to understand about the Lafayette market? It's centered around Lafayette, and nearly half are LSU fans. I grew up down the road in N.I, and actually went to USL. I was always an LSU fan first.

Napier is a star in the making.

Taking overvmiddlibg to bad sec programs is still a good step for the right coaching.

In the last few years:

Dan Mullen moved from Mississippi State into Florida.

James Franklin moved from Vanderbilt to Penn State.

You think it's more desirable to stay at ULL than take an SEC West job? Ok

He didn’t say that.

He said it might be better to wait a year, have another great season, and maybe something better than a no-win SEC job will open up for him.

Unless he can pull a Dan Mullen and win the max 10 games at Ole Miss (because Ole Miss is not beating Bama or LSU) then take over for Saban when he leaves Bama, the Ole Miss job is a dead end. Winning 10 leaves to margin for error with two losses already on the schedule. A bunch of 7 win seasons at Ole Miss gets him a lot of money but no chance at moving to a better program.

Now, if he were to leave for Memphis after this season and go undefeated with NY6 appearance or two, he’d be offered a better job than Ole Miss.

Viator has some hard decisions to make this offseason. Do you keep your friend for 30 years as DC after ranking 128th in total defense and 127th in scoring defense?

The offense was 20th in total offense with the same talent level.

Those instances are few and far between relative to head coaching careers that were killed by trying to lead those programs. Hell, Coach O is one of the few who was able to revive his HC career afterwards.

Well he never had a HC career before OM gave him the opportunity. He wasn't close to being ready back then. It had nothing to do with OM. He came in chugging red bull, ripping his shirt off and challenging players to come whoop his arse with the whole team present in the team auditorium.

Recent head coaches at Ole Miss

Luke - Never should have had a career

Freeze - All sorts of public disgrace and he's got a job at an FBS independent in Liberty

Nutt - game had clearly passed him by. Arkansas saw the writing on the wall. Retired.

O - Nowhere near ready to be a HC. Went on to be interim HC at USC and HC at LSU.

Cutcliffe - has had an 11 year and counting tenure as a power 5 coach at Duke. Previously had the opportunity to be HC at Tennessee but was nixed when he wasn't allowed to bring his Duke staff.

Tommy Tubberville - moved on to Auburn

I don't think Ole Miss is anywhere near a coach killer

Would they go after Will Hall? I still can't believe he's not a D1 HC yet.

The best Duke coach in the history of their program (including Spurrier).

ULL needs to get Rebowe if Napier jumps.

Or promote Ron Roberts.

I don't think the game passed him by. I think he was promised a lot of facility updates by our AD at the time and two years into his tenure, he still wasn't given what was promised. He stopped giving a shite and basically wanted to get fired. When Nutt cares about coaching and wants to win, he is extremely dangerous and his teams can usually beat anyone

Ole Miss won ten games and beat Bama and LSU in the same season less than 5 years ago.

Well, I guess if the staff cheats like they did in the timeframe, then it is possible.

No the analytics aren’t the problem, it’s that he makes some other questionable management decisions with how he uses timeouts and odd play calling. My bad for not being specific.

That would be a savvy move on his part if an SEC move doesn’t happen. If Norvell get the FSU job, guys on the way up will fall all over themselves to get that gig. They are on TV a lot now and set up for continued success in the AAC. Memphis has turned their program into the top stepping stone job in the FBS.

That may sound like an insult, but it really isn’t. For those who don’t know. Memphis has never won a conference title (should change on Saturday) and didn’t have a head coach hired away from 1971 until Fuente. All but one was fired. The one, Rex Dockery, was killed in a plane crash. Their transformation over the last decade is pretty amazing.
