Me too. Dude is solid.

There’s an argument that ISU is the worst P5 program

Lesson to be learned about missing your moment as an up and coming coach waiting for the next big job

He had another good year this year. I think he’s just happy at ISU.

He had probably the best freshman QB in the country.

I thought this was the guy Mississippi State should take a hard look at but he never even came up in their discussions.

ISU is a better job in terms of job stability. Pays less, but Campbell has basically a lifetime job.

ISU can compete and possibly win the new Big 12. Mississippi State has no chance of competing or winning the new SEC.

There was a moment where he was getting NFL hype and Michigan/OSU level hype and reportedly he turned a lot of that down

He’s been treading water at ISU since then and it was pretty rough last year which took a lot of his shine, noted by how little he’s been floated in the current cycle

Maybe he really is happy chilling at ISU, but he may have missed his moment to jump to a big fish if that is what he wants to do. That period of coaching hype is a short window

People tuned out after a couple of disappointing seasons, but he just quietly finished another great coaching job there. He did a great job of adjusting to what they have.

I think major programs are scared about how he will recruit and how that will translate with their higher expectations. If Campbell wants to stick with the way he does things and has a fanbase that is willing to be patient and realistic, then maybe he’s good staying right where he is.

I feel like him and PJ Fleck missed their window. Same with Mark Stoops, he has now caused two nuclear melt downs in back to back years

Maybe people tuned out because he kept turning down job offers?

He just had a great season, by ISU standards, so he could get a “better” job if he wanted one.

Coaches telling schools no using increases the amount of times they ask more so than decreasing it. The 4 win season and NIL changing the game likely played the biggest part in his quiet rumor mill the last few years.

I have no doubt he could get a better job than ISU still, just not the blue chip jobs he was getting sniffs at a couple years ago

His window slammed shut after the QB/LB guy and then Brock Purdy left.

But then again, maybe he is content to be in Ames and never really compete for much in the way of championships. But he sure could have made himself a lot of money when his name came up every cycle.

It is definitely among the worst PUBLIC P5 program setups, along with some others like Kansas, Kansas St, and Colorado. All lack population and natural recruiting bases. The money and facilities are less attractive. But good enough coaches have still managed to win at all 3.

The private and academically focused schools that will not bend for recruiting have now become the worst P5 jobs. Stanford, Cal and Northwestern are probably the lowest of the bunch today. They cannot control the outflow of players to the portal and they have very few options to bring decent replacements in that will meet their academic standards. Stanford is probably the worst because they refuse to let any player stay for a 5th year who can’t meet their insane grad school standards.

True. He’s been linked to several jobs in the past, but that was largely based on the assumption that he would be looking to move up. Has there ever been any confirmation that he expressed interest in another job?

But Stoops makes $9 million a year. I can't believe that, it absolutely blows my fricking mind.

Having your name floated every offseason for bigger jobs pays better than getting a bigger job in some cases

Campbell is only 44. It’s more likely he knows he has time to pick the right job than just taking any job that would be a step up.

Well, reports were he was very close to taking the Texas job a few years ago. Then the Notre Dame job. And people still talk about him being the possible replacement for Harbaugh at Michigan if he leaves because that was the talk last offseason when Harbaigh's future was up in the air.

Those aren't "just a step up" type of jobs.

Plus he can be 7-5 at UK and if he can beat one of UF,UT or UGA like once every few years no one is mad.

Sunbelt Billy is currently his whipping boy.

He goes 1-11 vs those teams above and UK is ok with it.
