I guess I'm just not as high on how good they are this year as others. But like I said, hypothetically if they were both open.
I like LSU, but I'm not a homer. Texas is probably the best or second best job in the country.
I always thought Charlie Strong was a damned strong coach. We'll see if I was right this year, when the pressure is really on.

Is money really going to be the deciding factor?
No, it probably won't be the deciding factor but it will obviously be a HUGE factor.
Look I love LSU with all my heart and soul, and even being bias as I am towards LSU I can see the forrest through the trees. If you ask 10 well respected individuals "coaches, media pundits, AD's etc..." in the field of football that don't have any biases towards LSU or UT which is the better job in college football. It is hands down UT and I would bet 9 out of 10 would say that with a strong possibility of 10 or 10 saying that.
The only catch is the Big 12's lack of a championship game right now that makes it harder to get into the college football playoff's since the committee gives credence to championship games. But I don't think that would be enough to sway a coach to go to LSU over UT. With the right coach UT would be as unstoppable as Bama is now, plain and simple. Think about it, if you are successful at UT where else would you go in college football? No other school the only other option would be the NFL.

What makes the LSU gig more attractive in your opinion?
You remember how F. King was meddling in LSU football last season? At Texas there are hundreds of F. King level meddlers. Their conference is on the verge of death and they are likely to be independent until their meddlers suck it up and buy out of the Longhorn Network. No decent coach in their right mind would go anywhere near that shitshow.

Not over Texas. No way. He was an assistant there, recruits Texas and would be in the Big 12. He would be at Texas over everyone else including ND and SCw

The invasive administration at Texas would be a negative in my opinion. Of course there are politics involved with the LSU job, but not nearly as bad. He would have more freedom to coach and run the show at LSU.
Agreed. Nobody doubts Texas has money. They went for saban and ended up with strong. Take Nick out of the picture. If money was the only factor for these guys then they don't land on strong.
They were reportedly willing to throw 10-million at NS and the most ridiculous of rumors are that he "thought about it".
There is far more to it than money. At some point it becomes more about setting yourself up to succeed than the pay. I feel like that's where Herman's head will be when making a move.

sure they can. It's just a matter of willpower.
Texas would probably drop out at 10 million or so.
We'd have doubled that if necessary, but as everyone knows we're nuts when it comes to winning football.
Texas Donors have significantly more money. The UT system endowment is $24B. Alabama's, like LSU's, is less than a billion.
I agree willpower is important, but you're not going to win some space race with those guys.

Overrated as a factor. Saban is from WV, played at Kent state, and wrecked shite at two schools in the south.

recruits Texas
Historically LSU has recruited Texas heavily. You get the Louisiana talent plus strong connections in Texas at LSU. It's Houston...not like he's being dropped into Alaska.

would be in the Big 12.
A joke that got shutout of the playoffs. Easier to win but scrutinized more heavily.
I don't think he's an easy pull to LSU but Texas isn't some end all be all.

If the Texas job is open,Herman will take that job and he should.
I like Herman as a potential HC but a little more sample before I anoint him as the next coming. He is playing with house money with another guys recruits right now. So how will he do with his own recruits.
He might do great but he might not. Greg Ward his current starting QB wasn't recruited by him FWIW.
Point is IMO we need a proven guy who has recruited and brought in his own players and we know what we are getting.

Add USCw into the mix. They suck and could get into the bidding war for Herman. He and his wife are from the West Coast BTW...

No he wont
Watching from his interviews everything about him i think he wants to coach in the SEC

He'd go to Texas and take Major Applewhite with him as OC back to ATX.
Hook'em all year, keep Strong.

ok. If you say show. UT is a better job at a more historical PLUS Austin is better than BR.

True. Which is why I said willpower matters. I doubt Texas would go over 10 million a year, they surely wouldn't go over 20. They don't think they'd have to because they're Texas.
We would if that's what it took.
And yes we can easily afford that. So can you guys but it would take a serious commitment

English please.
LSU and UT are in the same group. You're splitting hairs. UT can offer stupid money. More than LSU. Unless you're trying to pull Saban that's irrelevant. Herman can't and won't command close to what Nick makes so it's a moot point. If they wanna throw $7+ million at Herman, have at it. It would be a ballsy and borderline stupid move.
History only matters so much. Since the turn of the millennium LSU has been at least equal in success and has shown it will do whatever it takes to compete. No coach gives a shite about the 60s.

Why would the Texas job open up after this season?
Posted on 9/28/16 at 8:07 pm to burdman
Texas won't be firing Strong. and Herman won't be taking the LSU job.

So, hypothetically, if Texas & LSU both go after Herman, do you think LSU can/will beat them out for his services?
Everything I've read about Herman indicates Texas is "the" job he wants. I would say if he was sitting at home with the two offers and somewhat comparable money I think he's a longhorn

somewhat comparable money
Doesn't even need to be "comparable" since it would even out long term
If he wins at Texas, they will pay him as much and more than what LSU/Anyone would offer.
Posted on 9/28/16 at 8:13 pm to burdman
Texas is the better job, has more money, and Herman wants to stay in Texas
Posted on 9/28/16 at 8:14 pm to burdman
I can tell you Texas folks love Tom Herman. I said the other day that 8 or 9 wins does not guarantee Strongs job if Texas thinks this is there one shot to get Herman. If its a now or never deal on Herman, i would not be surprised if they fire Strong.
For one, Strong has not endeared himself to big Texas booster. For another, with Strongs defensive whoas 8 or 9 wins isnt even guaranteed. The Texas folks i know think Herman is a much better fit than Charlie.
Also, the road to the playoff is undeniably easier in the big 12.
As far as administration, both seem to be equally messed up.
