LSU athletics turns a profit every year. Zero state dollars are put into the athletic program.
They made a profit of $12 million last year alone. And that's with the highest paid asssitant coaching staff in the country
So just take $5-$6 million from the yearly profits and add it to the salary Les was making and you can compete with any school in the country as far as head coach pay goes and you are still turning a significant profit

You are saying LSU is willing to pay $10mil/yr for a coach with only 2 years experience?
Just to be clear, Texas out of pure ego will never allow themselves to be outbid. Their brand is built on getting what they want and overpaying is almost a symbol of pride (see Mack Brown)

The X factor is the conference and who is in the way of a playoff run.
For Texas? Beat big game Bob who is on the decline, beat a TCU on the decline, beat a Baylor that got raped by the offseason.

I disagree- Saban is not going to coach too many more years, Louisiana is richer than Texas with prospects, because they do not have to share. UT was once great- 'was' because kids today in Texas don't see Texas as the power it once was. Remember, it got so bad for UT, kids were calling them the 4th or 5th best team in Texas over the last few years. LSU would appear to have more of an 'upside' & the SEC speaks for itself...

You do realize Texas's football team does about $92mil in profit even during their shite season last year?
Compare that to say Alabama whose football revenues not profits were only about $97mil
Texas could snap their fingers and make $15-20mil extra available cash just from operations if need be.

No doubt, but I doubt most coaches want to step into a program like LSU and have to go toe to toe with Saban every year.

I think you under estimate the male ego....
its also a huge misnomer that Miles is gone because of an inability to beat Nick. He was starting to get owned by Arkansas, Ole Miss, etc. and the product on the field just became very bland and resulted in apathy across the fan base.

The same study that cited that $92 million profit for Texas also stated that LSU's profit was $58 million. I don't think it's accurate, but my point remains the same...LSU can use some of their profit money and easily match any salary offered.
No school is gonna offer a coach $20 million a year, but if Texas did based on their alleged $92 million profit, then so could LSU

Jimbo/Herman are sitting pretty right now. Jimbo is one of the highest paid coaches in the country, FSU is the top dog in the ACC, and both UF/UM are weak and aren't recruiting Florida well. Herman is a god in Houston and will either get a ton of money thrown at him from Houston or he will get a ton of money thrown at him from UT -- his dream job.
Why jump to LSU and face a fan base that has insanely high expectations -- especially when you have to face arguably the best college coach of all time.
