…it will go down as quite possibly the most underwhelming HC hire in LSU sports history, regardless of sport. This is LSU not Mizzou or TCU.

And, if you disagree, simply ask yourself, “Would Bama, tOSU or Clemson hire either one?” Not in a million years.

Nothing is more underwhelming than hiring Ed Orgeron

This doesn't make a lot of sense.

Oklahoma, Georgia Ohio st for example hired two cordinators with no proven head coach record at the time of their hire

Bama tried for Rich Rod before they hired Saban.

OSU promoted an assistant.

Clem's son wallowed for a while with Dabo. Underperforming in big situations. It's where the term Clemsoning came from, ya hear?

I mean Orgeron was pretty underwhelming but ya I would be pissed if it was Stoops. If it’s Campbell I think we could do better but wouldn’t be nearly as mad if it’s Stoops.

Nope. LSU just isn’t a top 5 job if this is the best we can get.

Less than 48 hours after the hire is made 99 percent of LSU fans will run through walls for the new coach.

REGARDLESS OF WHO IT IS.

This business about "underwhelming hires" is moronic. Not a single scrub coach has been discussed on this board since it was reopened.

You say this…. but Ohio State promoted Ryan Day to the head job. Was he the biggest name out there? Nope. Clemson promoted Dabo, was he the most sought after coach? Nope. It is easy to say that teams won’t settle for less than the best name out there, but in reality timing is everything and a coach has to want to make a move.

LSU hire Nick Saban when noone had ever heard of him and had an ok record at MSU after LSU beat him in a bowl game.

Jesus, pay attention, Stoops signed an extension today. His buyout is between 17-20 million. You people cannot be dumb enough to believe that Woodward would pay in excess of $35 million including the Orgeron & staff buyout for Stoops. If you do, you are outside your damn mind.

And Jacob Hester was a 2-star recruit. There are anomalies in everything, but I hope LSU isn't relying on one for this hire.

Only people who knew nothing about college football were unaware of Nick Saban and his reputation. I very much wanted LSU to hire him, but thought he would stay in the Midwest.

Well Bama was about to hire a coach from the big East and actually got turned down. That’s how they ended up with Saban.

Yep, and imagine the mess Bama would be in if they had actually wound up with Rich Rod. They got lucky when he turned them down. We can only hope to be so lucky that some of the names mentioned will turn us down.

Please be smarter. When you bring up Saban and the mediocre record he had prior to LSU, LSU wasn’t the prime job it is today. LSU has won 2 Natty’s SINCE Saban. LSU, today, is a TOP 5 job in the country.
