Gut feel. He has hardly any smoke on jobs. I know he’s in year one at Oregon, but that don’t matter. Oregon doesn’t seem to be able to keep many coaches around.

What year did Lanning start coaching? Like at all? Wikipedia says he was a recruiting coordinator or GA up until 2016 before getting his first position coach job.

I actually am starting to think it might be Mullen. I know some of the shine wore off of him at Florida, but Cohen knows him. They were together at MSU, I don't know anything about their working relationship, but you would have to think a call was made to Mullen whether or not it was in regards to Mullen taking the job. I haven't seen his name come up at all, and that's the way these things have been going since last year.

Mullen would be hilarious. He's a lazy recruiter and I thin thats one of the reasons harsin was fired. Would spell the dark ages for Auburn.

I thought Mullen had said his relationship with the administration had soured when he left, which is why he put a thank you letter to the local paper as MSU wouldn’t put anything out on his behalf.

Mullen would get couped before he coaches a game.

He burned Auburn bridges with the Cam thing.

Maybe Mullen is perfect in the NIL
/portal era - recruiting doesn’t matter as much. Just pay the frickers and move on.

Well, they didn’t really get along…

Oh, and Mullen had to take out a page in the paper for his farewell letter because Cohen wouldn’t let the athletic department put it out. So there is that.

If I’m the AD at Nebraska, there is no question who I hire. A guy who develops talent and has shown he can do more with less. You don’t have a fertile recruiting base, you need someone who can compete in your division with what you have. You don’t need a coach who is going to win you a natty, or at least not in the near future, you need someone who can win 8-9 games a year and rebuild the foundation.

Dan Mullen is the perfect fit for Nebraska and I can’t be convinced otherwise.

Neb fired a coach because of back to back to back 9-3s, and you think they would be satisfied with 8-9wins?

Auburn's Top 3 likely candidates:

1) Rich Rodgriguez- HC at JSU
2) Derek Dooley- Senior Offensive Analyst at Bama
3) Mike Cutrera- HC and Boys PE teacher at A. M. Barbe

We'd hire Chiz or Gus back before Mullen ever walked the home sideline at JHS.

Don’t you think Nix would tell him, “Listen coach… I am a Heisman candidate at Oregon and at Auburn I was trash. You don’t want that SEC smoke. Trust me!”

They would be for awhile. They haven’t had that kinda success in years now.

I think it's Gundy, Kiffin is just a smokescreen. I think he has been looking around the last couple of years.
