Is he a great DC? Yes. Should LSU insist whoever they hire to keep him on staff? No. Why would you handcuff your HC from day one?

LSU is ridiculously loaded with talent on defense, particularly this year. If LSU can keep pulling great talent then we will be okay on defense with an above average DC. I don't think retaining Aranda should be a deal breaker with any potential HC.

Most LSU fans didn't know who Dave Aranda was at this time last year.

Got it. I'm sure you were high on Aranda at this time last year.

You'd think that any new HC would like to retain DA. I'm a bit nervous that he might just bolt for another program. What if he doesn't even like the new HC?

I don't think as the AD, you can let your HC choice for hopefully the next 10-15 years be swayed by a DC (as great as he is) that in all likelihood won't be here in 2 years.

I am of a similar opinion that Aranda is not irreplaceable but the statement you made below is batshit stupid

You don't understand why we would want to keep one of the best DCs on staff?

This is what I'm concerned about. To me, telling Jimbo, Herman, or whoever else you hire that the job is contingent on retaining Aranda is starting off on a bad foot. I'd much rather the HC bring in whoever he thinks would best help his team as DC. If that's Aranda, great. If that's someone else then then that's fine too. I don't think you hire someone to take over your program and then tell them which coaches they have to hire.

I would love to be able to keep him. I don't think we should force whoever we hire as HC to keep him.

If whoever the new HC is is stupid enough to replace Amanda, I probably don't want him here.

He's not. A new coach will bring in a new staff anyway.

This board has been overcome by people who refuse to think.

I don't understand that I need food and water to survive. Also I need to take issue with you people that insist that water is wet.

Unless LSU will pull a rabbit out of the hat and land Saban, any coach would be Stupid not to retain Aranda.

The only thing that worries me, Aranda might be tempted to jump on the Herman train to Austin or Eugene.

Given that LSU is the only team in the country that has not given up 21 points this year, combined with a terrible offense keeping them under pressure, I don't want to lose the guy.

I don't either, but this is an incredibly experienced and talented defense. I just don't think you can force your next HC to keep him. I think it sends the wrong message and could cause conflict among the new coaching staff.

If LSU feels that strongly about Aranda then hire him as a HC, because if he's that good he's going to get a shot soon anyway.

If you thinking keeping Aranda is handcuffing a coach, then you may be beyond saving.
