I think telling your HC who to keep on his staff, no matter who the coach is, is handcuffing him. If you're bringing a guy in to ensemble a staff and run a program then let him bring in a staff and run the program.

if we get herman (long shot), then losing aranda would be ok as long as orlando comes with him, those two are basically a wash. but if it ends up being jimbo or fedora i'd like to see him stay

Jimbo would kiss Aranda's feet if he takes the LSU gig. I doubt Jimbo or Herman would view it as handcuffing especially since it's inevitnale that he would be retained by either.

As would I. I think he's a great coach, but I don't think we should condition our hire on whether the coach would retain Aranda.

Yep, you're beyond saving.

Put it this way, I'd rather make Aranda HC than lose him with another hire. I don't think he wants HC yet, but that's how much I think of him.

agreed, you're making the job less attractive by putting conditions such as that in the hiring process

I don't think that's the hangup. He would certainly take the HC gig at LSU if offered.

You don't have to make it a "condition"

The potential staff and who a candidate would like to keep for continuity are obviously points to be discussed in the interview process. Eliminate anyone who doesn't say they intend to keep Aranda as a high priority from contention for the job.
