Reading this board, I am getting sick over the ball-licking of Herman. He is a good 1 and 3/4 year head coach who has won a few big games, and plays in a pathetic league. Frankly, I don't like his offense, and prefer more of a college geared pro-style that Petrino, Haughbaugh, Fischer, Kiffen (modified this year) and USCW uses. There is a reason that the pro's don't run offenses like Houston's. If it could win them Super Bowls, then they would install it. I don't like Urban Meyer's (similar and Herman inspired)offense either.

Nobody can beat Bama with a pro style, so you better hope for a spread offense.

True Story. Ole Miss was beating Alabama 24-3 at one point.

if the spread option and subsets of it like the power spread/power read suck so much why has urban won 3 nattys with it? Malzahn won a natty and played for another natty with it. Chip Kelly played for a natty with it combined with HUNH/up tempo. yeah it definitely sucks.

disagree. miles did whether lucky or what. jimbo would get us the Qb play needed to beat him. You need very good Qb play and OL and WR's to beat bama with pro style. you think jimbo will ram it into the box all night predictably?

yes the spread option/power spread/power read teams have done well against bama. no doubt. I'm fine with either offense. Just because miles sucked donkey dicks the last 5 games against saban doesn't mean pro style won't work. comapring miles to jimbo is laughable.

As long as Herman's or Meyer's offense wins big games we should go for it. It is a more unpredictable offense than pro-style offense, and it would give an opposing team hard time to defense against it. Spread offense wins a natty in college.

Cool, guess we'll keep losing to Alabama in the meantime then.

Jimbo won a natty without the spread, Bama has won a few without the spread, USCw won "one" without the spread, and with the exception of OSU and Auburn, not much winning the championships. From my view, our new coach needs to study the Patriots, Packers, Steelers, and develop a pro-style system, and be willing to adjust it to special QB skills like Pete Carrol and Kiffen has done.

Herman's offense fits our talent pool perfectly. LSU has had trouble recruiting passing QBs and big/good OLinemen. Thats what you need for a pro style offense. Louisiana is short on both of those but has an abundance of skill players. So why not run an offense that will fit our type of athletes?

*I do think Jimbo would be able to recruit/develop better QBs, so wouldnt be opposed to him running a pro style offense, but i think the spread offense is the current and future evolution of football. And if you can run it with a guy that can actually pass, then you'll be tough to stop.

I will add that Saban's teams have been taylor made to stop our pro style offense-stuff the middle run, killer pass rush, and press coverage. But even he is adjusting to stop the spread by going after smaller/faster linebackers, because thats what they've had trouble stopping.

We don't have a pro roster.

We have less time to develop a QB.

Carroll is a defensive guy, and Kiffin has never looked good anywhere besides USC and Alabama, where he has all the ducking talent in the world.

Chances are we are not going to get Kiffin as our OC. We're gonna hire some ahlub to try and implement a pro style offense and teach it to some kid 2 years removed from high school or who wouldn't make an NFL roster if he roles with the male a wish foundation.

Unless you are loaded with star recruits in college, spread offense gives you more chance to win with lesser talents because it is more unpredictable.
