WTF r U TALKING ABOUT!!! WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY HIM IF WE WERE TO FIRE HIM. Can you not understand what has been written in plain English. This is his contract not smome message board talk. WE COULD NOT HAVE FORCED HIM. He had the upper hand. WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY HIM IF WE DID

Quote from EGG: Actually, some guys who claim insider knowledge on that board were saying that there was a meeting on Friday...
today's events just confirm every single thing.
there's interest on both sides...no offer yet, but I suspect it's coming.

If such is true, then Miles deserves every bit of slam he's getting from ESPN, other media, and fans. I hate to hear that, especially after all the drama from the last 10 days.....
I was supportive of Miles doing what he wanted to do a couple of weeks ago....just be honest with the public about it.....if he's now back-peddling on his commitment to stay at LSU "through at least next year", then F**K him, carry arse!! I want a man who will stand behind his word, and if he's still negotiating for 2008, he should go ahead and leave.

Well why would they call Michigan the night before and the day of? This has been confirmed by Bill Martin? Was it because they want to compare offers and to see which one is higher? That could be or it could be to make sure Michigan was going to offer the job.
heres a interesting link with Les Miles and Don Patrick...
Freep
A quote from his talk with Don Patrick
I had met my wife at Michigan; I had my first child there. I was raised as a coach there. Do you just turn around and tell those people, “Leave me alone” -- before they even ask to speak to you?
Is that something you say to rest rumors that you are not interested in the Michigan job?

I'll call your Dan Patrick quote and raise it a Miles a quote:
“I’m not a candidate for that job and I will not be a candidate for the job. I was only assisting them in their search for a coach. I have a great job at a wonderful place, a place that my family calls home. It’s time that Michigan goes on with their search for a football coach. I’ll say it again, I’m going to be the coach at LSU next season.” --Coach Miles LINK
Give it a rest.

It was cool that Les Miles Made the Identical statements about LSU that he's made about Michigan when LSU was trying to pull him away from Oklahoma State.
i've seen this several times and it is not true. i've gone back and read miles' exact quotes and they were no where even close to the things he's said about the michigan job. back then, he used coachspeak to deflect the questions and say he was only worried about OSU's bowl game. he has said time and again that he is not going to michigan, he is not a candidate in their coaching search, and he will be the coach at lsu next season. his reactions each times are in no way similar and i have no idea why people keep posting that bullshite.

UM: Time to drop down to your ..sorry...lost track...4th or 5th choice for a HC at mighty UM? Since you are so caught up in contract language, you mite suggest to your AD that a clause be put in the next contract that the new coach can not lose to a Division One Double A team. At home.

If Michigan would have been ready two weeks ago to offer Miles deal he'd already be the Coach. LSU forced him to sign the deal or he would be fired.
Think about this statement. Think hard (this might be difficult since you seem to be impotent).
If LSU really was going to fire Miles on the spot, LSU would have had to pay millions to Miles for breach of contract. And Les would then be free to go to Michigan and not have to pay his buyout clause of $1.25 million.
So it would have been to Les' advantage to get fired if he wanted to coach at Michigan. He would have had MILLIONS in his pocket with no obiligation to pay LSU $1.25 million.
And LSU would have to be IDIOTS to fire the guy and lose so much money. If they wait and not fire Miles, he has to pay LSU $1.25 million and LSU doesn't have to pay Miles squat.
Now does that seem plausible?

"Out Clause"?!?!?
There is no out clause for him to go to Michigan. It's a buyout clause....a penaltyif he does go to Michigan

Are we ships passing in the night? I thought I was saying the same thing you are saying. Miles actually had the upper hand in the negotiations and wasn't forced to sign anything, because LSU would have to pay him millions if they fired him for refusing an extension. There never was any "take or leave it" position taken by LSU with Miles because Miles had the leverage, not LSU.

I hate calling someone I don't know stupid, but I'll make an exception in this case.
Read your statement captioned above and justify it with the FACT that LSU would be obligated to pay him $10 Million on his termination clause present in his contract (it's been upped to $15 Mill in the new contract).
Tell me you think LSU would "fire" him so they could give him the $10 Mill; that way you'll confirm that you're stupid and remove all doubt.

you guys act like miles went on and did those speeches because he wanted to. Your AD forced him to go on the air public before the game to say he was staying at AD. I respect LSU but I think you guys need to put some blame on your AD. Dont tell a team that they cant talk to your coach until after the SEC CG then force him to make a decision the night before on whether or not he is staying. Then blame the coach after he leaves because he had no other choice but to say he was staying since your AD.
Really? Link? Source of info?
And btw, Every person walking on this earth is a hypocrite to some degree. Now go try and sabbotage your rivals MNC instead of ours

You UM fans that come on our board all have 1 thing in common - you don't see things for what they are. OUR coach, Les Miles, just helped you out by not making you look bad AGAIN by turning YOU down. What is with all the conspiracy BS? You guys are like a wounded animal backed in the corner with your coaching search. You just want to cause havoc because you want something that you can't have - OUR coach.
You also have something in common with another fan base - Alabama. Like them, you have an over inflated value of your program. The fact that Schiano and now Miles has turned you down should tell you something. You aren't what you used to be. Don't get me wrong, you are in better shape than Alabama is right now, but not by much.
OSU & UM fans are nuts. I saw the special on HBO about the rivalry. I have an appreciation for your rivalry, but you guys think your programs are at an elite level - they are not. You play a weak schedule and then you play each other. That is supposed to the big game that legitamizes your conference. Instead it's 2 mediocare programs with a historic rivalry. And you are going to get a lesson from a real elite team from an elite conference on Jan. 7th. Welcome to reality.

Read the press release. Michigan called Miles...big suprise...they talked about the canidate search. Miles threw out a few names...Saban, Holtz, Bear Bryant...Michigan folks are hot their trail right now. Having problems finding Bryant though. His email's have bounced. Good luck on your coaching search MichFan98.

Forced Miles to sign the extension or be fired?
I have read a lot of stupid shite on this great website over the past, oh, six years.
But that takes the cake.
These UM bums (you know who you are) do a piss poor job of representing a damn fine institution of higher education.
