Hue Jackson to Cal?

The San Jose Mercury reports that he is candidate, but why? He was the Raiders HC last year, did win a big game in Houston. But besides that, what makes people think he is a good candidate?

Plenty of experience at QB coach and OC in college and the NFL.

Hue Jackson is the only HC have a non-losing record since Gruden left the Raiders. He would not have been fired if Al did not die. Jackson is one hell of a head coach if he could go .500 at that shithole. I would love to have him at Auburn.

Like legit, no joke crazy.
That 8-8 record - considering Tom Cable got better results out of the same roster with a lesser QB - is / was fools gold.

Mike Silver is pimping Hue hard, but I don't know how seriously he is being considered. Sandy Barbour has supposedly been interviewing coaches this week, but around Monday Jackson said he hadn't been contacted by Cal, and he was openly lobbying for the job. So that's it. Silver is pushing it but there's no evidence yet that Sandy has interviewed or plans to interview Jackson. Internet Cal fans want a coach who has been a successful college HC.

He was there when Petros Papadakis was captain of the team. Petros always talks about how he was captain of the worst USC team in history, and also about how much he and Hue didn't get along.

Factually true.
By the time Oakland was 4-2, they had already exhibited the signs that would cost Hue his job -- rampant mental mistakes, bizarre play-calling and a generally bizarre, ineffective brand of game management.
He spoke about himself in the third person; held marathon Friday night team meetings where he would threaten people; despite being the play-caller, he stopped going to offensive coaching staff meetings; he stopped communicating with Carson Palmer -- oh, forgot to mention he traded for Palmer (who I like) and Aaron Curry -- well, you get the idea.
I can sum up Hue Jackson in a very simple manner - imagine Les Miles without the redeeming qualities.
Same mistakes, week after week; same bizarre game-management issues; same inability to put teams away... except the players didn't play hard for him, because they disliked him and thought he was a clown.
That 8-8 record was smoke and mirrors based on a weak schedule and a gimmick offense.

I'm not saying Hue Jackson's a world beater but if Lane Kiffin can get a better job than Cal with less career experience and a worse tenure as Raiders coach then Jackson being just a candidate for the Cal job isn't crazy.

If Les Miles even remotely resembled HueJack, he wouldn't have won 80% of his games at LSU. He'd have gone the way of Curley Hallman.

he had a good year last year...in the NFL. his starter got hurt, ownership got palmer and force dhim on jackson, and it became a shite show
