If he goes 2-3 or worse from here on out, I think he'll understand and go back to D line/recruiting coordinator) if the new coach offers to keep him. If he goes 3-2 or better, he'll be pissed and leave.

This is why he CANNOT be hired as LSU head coach. You have guys from ULL saying "Hmm..i guess id take him". Yeah thats the level of coach we want.

The guy 100% absolutely does not have a resume that should warrant him being LSU's head coach.
Being an interim cheerleader for talented major programs that have someone else's system, coaches, and players is not proof he can sustain success at a major program.
He has built and maintained his own program once. At Ole Miss. He was worse than his predecessor and successor there. He also got worse every year there, culminated in an 0-8 SEC record in year 3 with "his players and system". That is the first time that has happened in Oxford since 1982.
He says he's changed? Great, I hope he has. But that does not mean a top program like LSU should be the guinea pig to see if he actually has changed.
This should not even be discussed.

There was a coach in the pros who had a pretty terrible record the first time he was a coach. 36-44 in 5 years. No better than 2nd in his division. 1 winning season in 5.
Now...I'm not saying Coach O is even in the same coaching planet as Bill Belichick. But 2nd chances do happen, especially when you have an 8-2 record as an interim coach at two high-visibility programs. It means you can coach/lead with good talent. He had shite at Ole Miss. He recruits well. He lets coaches do their jobs. It reminds me a lot of how Pete Carroll ran things at USC.

This is key. Keeping players pumped and playing well after a firing is not synonymous with sustained success over multiple seasons. He's never done this, and he should prove he can elsewhere before we give him the keys.

Now this I agree with.
If I were Joe Alleva, I'd be telling CEO that his best chance to be the HC at LSU is to go build a program somewhere. Win some games, maybe even a conference title, and then come back to the SEC.
That said...if in the unlikely event LSU runs the table, meaning they are 11-2 conference champs...it's going to be really hard to have a press conference and say "Thank you, Coach O, for basically doing the best possible job any coach could do after our 2-2 start. But we're going to go with someone else."

If he leaves (on his own or not retained by new HC) and doesn't get any decent HC offers, I could see him maybe heading to Lake Charles to work with Guidry at McNeese to give him time to decide on his next career move and spend a lot more time with his boys.

Maybe that's part of the problem with him. Many great coaches before him have cut their teeth at smaller programs before making it big. Why does he think he gets to skip that step? He already got a major job and shite the bed.
What coach can you think of whose first two HC jobs are at the level of Ole Miss and LSU?
If he's got the goods, it shouldn't matter where he coaches, he'll rise to the top. Guys like Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh didn't have problems starting at the bottom. It's the smart thing to do. That's where you learn how to be a coach and you won't get canned 3 years in.
Coach O could go to a MAC school and dominate if he really committed himself to his craft. At LSU he doesn't have the luxury of learning on the job.

I meant that he started with shite at Ole Miss. He most certainly should have done better than 0-8 in year 3. It's his tenure there that gives me most pause about having him as HC. But, as they say, he's pushing all the right buttons.

What is this about an interview? Everyday is an interview for him. How he actually ran the program is better proof than some promises made in a conference room. The candidates can only outline plans, policies and procedures. Orgeron is putting all of that in motion right now. The athletic administration will have all the evidence they need. I think making him sit down for some formal interview would be insulting.
