How could it be Riley when he appears destined for another CFP appearance?

He certainly isn't going to accept formally or informally before the season ends when he has a chance to win an NC against a fairly weak field. And will LSU wait until after the playoffs? What if OU makes the final? Or wins the entire championship? Won't OU attempt to keep him with a counter offer? Waiting until the very end of bowl season for a candidate who could spurn LSU seems illogical and risky.

Hiring a lesser quality coach just to fit a timeline is not exactly the smartest thing to do

I don't think OU would match what we would be willing to offer

Okay, but I presume he still isn't going to pass up a chance to win an NC by leaving OU early. And what if OU counteroffers a huge number to retain him?

But what happens if you wait for Riley to finish the playoffs and then lose him to OU? The other viable candidates could be gone by then.

Guy is using us for a raise. Nothing more nothing less.

Then they keep him, obviously.

What happens if Riley wins the Natty? Is his next move to bolt for LSU?
I mean that eliminates the supposed main draw that he can't win a Natty at Oklahoma.

Its not
Riley walked into a conference champion. He wasnt interested in a rebuild, that might get him canned in 3-4 years

Not to mention his young QB appears to be a future star

Agree. Again, none of this makes a great deal of sense to me when you examine it logically.

Money and a unique recruiting ground make it more enticing. I don’t think we get Riley, but it’s far from impossible.

It’s not like he won’t be out of the playoffs after his annual first game beat down.

This team won't win the national title.
