It's to distract other programs.

Pay attention kids: this is called negotiating through the media

really? just like when they fired brown, right?

Wouldn't those programs try to call that 'bluff' anyway?

They assumed they had Saban in the bag with the $100 million offer, but let Mack stay around and meddle with the process. That's why Texas didn't land Saban.

I'm sure they didn't think Nick would turn down 100 million. that's the story anyways.
I doubt they make that mistake again

The Austin American Statesmen had a good article about this process in 2015. I will have to dig it up. But the take way was, Saban was coming but Mack Brown muddied the waters.

Football rumors quoted this earlier and said it goes against everything they've heard in regards to Herman and Texas.
Said Texas and his agent have been in contact for weeks and Herman has already sent over his terms on contract/coaches pay, control, etc

They had no plan when Brown was fired.
They thought no one in his right mind would say no to $100 million over 10 years, particularly when that person's agent had been floating that number for over a year. Maybe that was a bad plan, but it was a plan, right?
shite happens.

I bet Herman wants to bring Major Applewhite with him wherever he goes, don't see Major being welcomed back at Texas.

Why would Texas hire Herman, when they could instead go right to the source and hire Meyer? If they were willing to pay Saban $s, surely they can make Meyer an offer be can't refuse. Herman just is not the home run the Longhorns need, not with their football program, along with the Big 12, spiraling into the abyss. Herman is not the man for their job!

I stand corrected then. Sucks it didn't work out. Damn!

Now THAT would be a ballsy move.

A couple sources told me LSU and Baylor aren't options for Herman. I'm told they aren't pursuing him

I may be completely wrong on this, but I have a hard time trusting the word of this random person on twitter with 4k followers. Maybe he has credibility, but none that I'm familiar with.

Even if true I like how he is waiting on Texas.
Guys get your head out of your arse! He is not waiting on shite. The season is not over. Nobody is going to publicly pursue another job before the season has ended. I am sure his agent has a drawer full of offers already but Herman is not going to comment on any of them right now - just common decency to his players and fans.
This week is the quiet before the storm at the Herman household. Come Sunday he will have AD's parked in is spot in his driveway and taking his order at his favorite fast food drivethru...

Texas can be THAT program, but to get there they need to have THAT coach. There's just not enough data on Herman to tell you if he has "it". They need a Harbaugh-Saban-Meyer hire. Nothing else will do.
