I have some friends involved with the Ragin Cajun Athletic Foundation. I spoke to two of them separately this week and they both said the same thing independently

There is a tentative plan being put into place to hire Napier at Alabama to be the OC and HCIW. The ULL Admin are aware of this and have quietly put together a list of potential Napier replacements. ULL knows at most they have one more season of Napier in place.

If Bill O'Brien leaves after this season (almost assuredly he will) then the OC job at Bama opens up and the Napier Plan may kick in sooner rather than later. If not after this season and that is what Alabama decides it still wants to do, the Napier Plan would definitely be in place after next season.

Saban has an extension to 2028, a HCIW would solve a few things
1. It would allow Saban to coach through as much of the full length of the contract he wants to and control the process of his retirement/replacement completely

2. It would resolve the unknown of a transition to a "new HC" like the FSU transition to Jimbo after Bowden

3. It would allow Napier to grow into the HC job, or flame out, get exposed and be replaced

4. It would be a sustainable narrative for recruiting continuity

A lot of what we are seeing and hearing is agents creating "demand" for their clients with linking them to searches that are in progress or may be in progress soon

I am very skeptical of your information based on nothing more than the fact that this sort of thing never seems to work as planned (e.g. Will Muschamp as HCIW at Texas).

While some within the Bama admin. may be keeping an eye on Napier as a potential replacement for Saban whenever he decides to hang it up, I doubt that it is anything beyond that.

And even if your info. is correct, if we offer him the HC job at LSU now, he is not going to turn it down for the hope that he may be the HC at Bama at some point in the future.

What are the odds Saban coaches thru 2028?

I think this is more likely a well placed rumor to gin up interest in Napier. Sounds like an agent "leak".

I’ve prepared myself mentally that he’ll be there til 2038.

Anything sooner and I’ll be happy

I don't see him wanting to be an OC for that long after being a head coach. That's a possibility of 6 seasons....

This sounds like the kind of crap Billy’s agent would put out there to raise interest in his client.

2028!? That’s a dang lifetime in coaching years, no way he’d commit to waiting around that long.

If he’s that much of an unknown quantity to Bama why the frick do we want to be the guinea pig and give him the head role right away.

fair enough, but why would LSU offer the job to Napier?

Jimbo was 42 years old when he left LSU to be the OC/HCIW at Florida State

That job lasted 3 years and then he was promoted when Bowden stepped down. Part of Bowden stepping down was his replacement was already on campus and it was time to move on.

Some of you are looking at this and fixating on 7 years. I seriously doubt Saban wants to coach at Bama until he is 77 years old. A move like this takes the majority of the unknowns out of it in a lot of ways for everyone involved.

but it is indeed probably bullshite

None of this scenario is even remotely true. But that was a cool story.

If there’s any truth to this, it’s merely Bama’s futile attempt to block LSU’s move and give him another option.

Worst case scenario for them is it forces LSU to pay more for Napier

In that same context, this could also obviously be Napier’s agent doing work

HCIW for 7 years?!?

This is total bullshite. By far the worst "info" I've seen. Napier must've hired the same people O did before he was hired.

Could you imagine the board lose its shite if we pay north of 7 mil for Napier?

That’s probably what’s going on here…

Someone (who knows who) trying to get LSU fans that may not be on board with Napier on board the train.

This is silly. if Napier were even willing to do this (potentially wait seven years for a HC job), why didn’t Bama just hire him this past offseason?
