I guess it just dawned on me if Riley really is commanding a $12-13 million salary, he would be the highest paid coach in American sports. Not just college football or football in general, but all of sports in the US. Pretty cool

It is private but generally reported to be Bill Belichick at $12.5. MLB surprisingly low and NBA topping out at about $10-11 million.

eta. not surprising I guess - cheap labor...

He's about to get a lot of people paid if he takes a deal at 12 million a year. Reseting the coaching market.

In a world that believes CEO was paid over nine million. when he actually gets six plus incentives. I would think next coach is getting 8 with couple million in bonuses for championships and some life insurance payments.

O gets 6 and then another 3 in additional compensation for media appearances. It’s not incentives.

Why don't we know NFL coaches pay? We have every nuance and dollar amount/length of contract/incentives/cap hit for every player contract out there yet coaches get to get paid relatively anonymously

Idk. They don’t have a union and it’s just not really made public

Incorrect

O gets paid $6m per year, total before postseason bonuses. He also has a 5m life insurance policy in his first 2 contract years. The life insurance policy is the only reason CURRENT USA Today rankings have him over $8m

O gets paid $6m per year in salary + additional comp

No salary cap for coaches. The players fall under a cap so the league / other teams get to know.

Also, union wants that to set the bar for the NEXT guy.

Supplemental/media is part of his $6m annual salary

Ed O’s annual salary (Base+Supplemental) is $6m

See Page1:
Contract clearly defines annual pay (Base+Supplemental)

excluding the life insurance policy, Ed Orgeron makes $6m/yr plus postseason Bonuses.

And his buyout was 70% of the remaining 4 years at $6m per

Would this not also make him the highest paid coach in the world?

No. Head coaches (they're called "managers") at top European soccer clubs can make more, given the exchange rates.

No one knows how much private school coaches make. Coach K probably makes more than that.

David Shaw at Stanford probably does to, if you include all the perks and other stuff he gets from the Silicon Valley billionaires out there.

Gary Patterson was rumored to be making a lot more than was publicly released.
