Update***I just got home from my uncle’s house. Here are the details.

So it turns out the close Arkansas win last year after already having 2 losses is when the wheels were set into motion. At this point SW compiled a list of suitable coaches he’d like to dig into a bit more.

With the help of his staff a list of approximately 16 coaches were vetted. After the vetting process the list shrunk to 11 guys.

Fastforward to this year and at the moment of the Coach O resignation press conference, the list had dwindled to 9. He doesn’t know how many are on the list at this point.

This is about all he would tell me as far as specifics go. He believes that SW, Tate and 2 others will be the only ones to know of the hire pre contract signing.

It seems as though the Monday/Tuesday after conference championship weekend will be when the announcement comes. My uncle believes a day or so before this is when he will find out.

He did tell me a few names on the short list….

Riley
Fickell
Aranda
Napier
Franklin
Which is pretty much what we already knew.

His gut instinct is that Riley won’t come and we will hire Aranda.

That’s all I know and I doubt much more will arise until a day or so before the hire at which point my uncle wouldn’t tell me who anyway.


P.S. I asked about Saban and he said SW absolutely reached out to him but that was the extent of what he know about that. There’s a chance!!!

I'm ashamed to admit that I am indeed his uncle.

You'll have to forgive him, he's a little slow. I once wore an LSU shirt to our family's thanksgiving when he was a kid, and he said that I must work there to get such a nice shirt.

I jokingly played along with him thinking it was pretty obvious that I just wore the tshirt as a fan, and the "joke" (or so I thought) continued at Christmas when he asked me what I had heard about Les Miles from my coworkers.

I made up everything I could possibly think of, even claiming that Bear Bryant was on the list to replace Miles, and my poor nephew ran around talking about bears for hours after that. I should've realized his true mental capacity when he spouted dozens of bear facts for the next hour and wondered about their football coaching abilities out loud.

He continued the "joke" for several more years before I realized he was just a little slow and was taking me seriously.

Now I don't know how to break it to my poor mentally ill nephew that it was a joke all along. I don't want to break his fragile mind or anything, so I just make up things to tell him and he seems content with that.
