Have you?

Because I have. My Aunt and Uncle went there. Met there. I even applied and visited.

It's in the middle of nowhere

It's literally a school surrounded by corn fields

The fact Matt Campbell went to a school that unappealing and took a football program that was a complete laughing stock and put them into national conversations is astounding.

The fact that some of you are treating him like some kind of joke is ridiculous.

I'm not saying he's my number one guy... but I did like the possibility of him coming here.

Imagine what he could do to a program like LSU.

Weren’t they returning all 22 this year and expected to contend for the conference championship?

….maybe that was Iowa.

Ames has the largest federal animal disease center in the United States. Who wouldn't want to live there?

He didn’t do it with recruiting, though. He has scouted and developed well. That is a good recipe when your ultimate goal is to win 8 games and crack the top 25. It’s not enough to get LSU to where it wants to go. You have to recruit at a top 10 level AT ABSOLUTE WORST if you want to have a chance at a championship. Matt Campbell has not shown an ability to recruit at a high level. Maybe he will turn out to recruit well at LSU, but he has not done it at all to this point in his coaching career.

Edit: lmfao you people are truly insane if you don’t think recruiting is a fair question with respect to Matt Campbell. If recruiting wasn’t an question mark with Campbell he’d be the head coach at texas with a little less than a year under his belt.

Because that's how you have to do it at a place like ISU

I'm just convinced some people just want their guy. If you like Napier and Aranda I don't know why you wouldn't like Campbell.

He's in that same young, up-and-coming mold but he's got more of a proven track record, in a P5 conference.

You're always going to get 15 4-star recruits in a class at LSU, and a couple of 5-stars to go with them.

What Campbell's skill set could give you is a lot more Lloyd Cushenberrys and less Kardell Thomases.

Because in case you haven't noticed a lot of our success has come from guessing right on lesser-recruited kids. Even Orgeron found Neil Farrell when Marvin Wilson didn't want to come, and there's no doubt who's had a better career.

Serious question, what was recruiting like before he got there and how does that compare to now?

Lmfao.

We’ve landed multiple 5*s and 15 4*s in a single class exactly once since 2015. Probably longer, but I didn’t feel like going back any further.

You just described a top 3 class. You think a top 3 class is an automatic shoe-in? If you buy that a class like that is something you can pencil in, you are outside of your fricking mind.

This whole board is out of its mind.

You mean he’s not a career Defensive Line Coach who sucked as a Head Coach before he came to LSU? Sounds great! I’m sold!!

This argument just makes me laugh as it shows how little some here understand the world outside of LSU.

Name me 4 coaches that could pull top ten classes at ISU.

*I'll name one that might be able to. Saban, solely due to his name and 8 NC's. No one else is going to do it.

So we've only had 15 4 * plus a couple of 5 stars twice in the last 10 years. 2016 & 2021 2nd and 3rd ranked classes.

2014 could be thrown in there too I guess, 13 4 * but 4 5*, also 2nd ranked.

What you are describing is not a common occurrence, whoever the new coach is, he and his staff have to work for those numbers.

2012 ranked 13th 0-5* 16-4* 6-3*
2013 ranked 6th 0-5* 19-4* 8-3*
2014 ranked 2nd 4-5* 13-4* 9-3*
2015 ranked 4th 2-5* 11-4* 9-3*
2016 ranked 2nd 2-5* 16-4* 9-3*
2017 ranked 2nd 1-5* 14-4* 9-3*
2018 ranked 15th 1-5* 12-4* 9-3*
2019 ranked 5th 3-5* 11-4* 10-3*
2020 ranked 4th 3-5* 13-4* 6-3*
2021 Ranked 3rd 2-5* 16-4* 5-3*

Pre-LSU Saban couldn't do it at MSU, he darn sure couldn't do it at Iowa State.
