Once again take this for what it's worth; many have tried to dispute me but all have failed - you obvious dont get links to info like this.
I have stated before that my uncle is a booster and gets calls from some of the top folks at LSU and let's just say that it has been one of the most interesting weeks in the history of LSU athletics among the big shots.
Someone posted earlier that the Shaw folks (Jim Bernard and Co., who do have a lot of power) have been pushing for Saban. I was told that this was true. I also reported earlier today that Skip called my uncle last week (for insight only, my uncle makes no decisions but his opinion seems to be highly respected up there) and asked what he thought about bringing Saban back - my uncle said F no. Skip said that that was the consensus of the majority of boosters he had called. I also found out that there are basically 2 factions at work - The Shaw people and another group (doesnt have a nickname). The "other group" wants someone like Spurrier, Del Rio, Rodriguez, etc. The Shaws want Saban and Saban has definitely made it known through a 3rd party that he wants the job.
Apparently most of the big shots in the admin dont want to deal w/ Saban either. My uncle said that he thinks it could come down to a compromise candidate like Del Rio. Just his opinion - not inside info.
Spurrier is still the #1 choice as of right now (by most of the boosters) but no deal has been cut with him yet. Del Rio has made it known that he would likely take the job if offered which has put him up a few notches from where he was 2 days ago.
Flame on!

I can assure you that nothing I have said can remotely classify me as a hack, and it would take a gang of MIT scientists to judge the biggest hack on TD.com - but smartass has my vote!
I really think the most compelling thing is that if you read enough rumors, bits and pieces of them tied together in certain ways start to reveal something that resembles the truth. I didnt bleieve the Shaw story when I read it earlier (though i didnt flame the poster) but turns out it was factual.

I really hope the people who want Spurrier, Del Rio,etc. win out

Rocket I thought you were a huge Saban fan?
I want Saban back...at least with him..we would know he wanted to come back and we know we have a proven winner...
the others have question marks...Spurrier might be too old...no longer has the fire in his belly...
I think head to head with equal talent...Saban beats SS team 8 out of 10 times....

This jives almost to a tee with what I was told by someone who has a very good connection with Skip. He said the "Saban group" is led by 4 people. The "Spurrier group" is led by the new president among others. Del Rio is the compromise candidate.
He also said that Skip will have some input, but as a lame duck it won't be much.
He has no idea what will happen other than Les making his announcement sometime between Sunday and Tuesday.

I was. But, he's not what we need now.

and Spurrier is also not the answer

I still don't get the Del Rio thing. Why would he leave the NFL gig when has a team with promise?
Posted on 11/30/07 at 12:15 am to pitbull20
Fools who don't want Saban. The man wants the job and they say no. I'm gonna vomit.
Posted on 11/30/07 at 12:16 am to BMoney
What happened to the email that said in point 3 or 4, Spurrier is not interested in LSU job per his agent, despite what you are hearing, (directly from the agents) but added, that could change quickly..depending on blah blah..
So all these booster fired up about SS, do we know if the man will leave USC? and what are the main reasons they want him? I just can't see him here...

Maybe he wants back in the college game? I don't know. There is money in college football for head coaches. Better chances to control your destiny, a little bit less stress, etc.

He is not appreciated there. He is in the final year of his contract and they aren't looking to excited about extending it.

the big advantage Saban has is that he is younger. the best we could hope for out of Spurrier is 5 more good years. Saban would be here for a very long time.
plus bama would return to the gutter.

Rocket, what does LSU need now? Obviously saban is a good builder...
I think we need a 10 year run with someone...stop the changes
I believe saban could do that...retire at LSU a legend....
Sexton asked him.."do you want to be remembered as a Paul Bear Bryant or a Don Shula? With out hesitation he answered more of a Bryant...
but then he got recruited by Huizenga again and lost his real desire all along....and left...Sexton knew, Saban could do special things at LSU

at 6-6 I do not think they have gotten out of the gutter
Posted on 11/30/07 at 12:23 am to ApexTiger
with the 10 mill buyout saban would retire here without a doubt. people got their feelings hurt and now they won't swallow their pride and take him back.
Posted on 11/30/07 at 12:23 am to Fat Tire
I am still of the opinion that Saban will be the next head coach at LSU.
