I like the hire... checks most of the boxes in what we need from a HC. Other than Meyer I am not sure if there was a single guy out there that would have brought a "holy shite" response from anyone
It was always going to be a guy like Collins

He's been a DC at multiple SEC Schools (Mississippi State and Florida) and was head coach at Temple. He's energetic and should be able to have success recruiting to Georgia Tech.
Was on Saban’s support staff when he first got to Alabama. Highly thought of in regards to recruiting.

Who?
Geoff Collins was the guy who did this.

so what exactly were the reactions from MSU recruits when he did these things? I keep hearing about it, but I haven't seen what the actual result was in terms of recruiting success.

I think most of us fans just rolled our eyes, BUT the recruits seemed to like that kind of stuff. He definitely improved our recruiting (or at least seemed like he did) while he was at State. He did a very good job as DC as well.
I'm pretty sure Mullen annoyed him though so he left as soon as he could.

The recruiting location gives this job lots of potential. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to build a program that can consistently compete for acc titles.
They can’t recruit the same kids as everyone else. It’s one of the toughest academic schools in the nation.

But seriously, this is a great hire for Tech.

I thought some tech posters floated this name as a possibility.

Temple had a strange season. They opened up 0-2 losing to Buffalo (who ended up being pretty solid this year) and Villanova (who was bad in FCS) but once they changed QBs it was like a completely different team.

If Collins can turn over that roster and take advantage of a piss weak ACC in year 1 or 2, he's got the passion for recruiting to become a thorn in the side for UGA, a boon to us all.
If he hires a staff that can sell ATL, look the frick out.

It’s a good move for him, if the whole thing blows up and he ends up being awful, he blames it on the school/Paul Johnson and goes back to what he was doing before. If he manages to make GT decent he is probably getting a Top15 type job within 4-5 years.

I mentioned him back on the 3rd when people were focused on the false rumors about Whisenhunt or when others were, for whatever reason, talking about Monken and Bohannon.

Former Gator DC under Sharkfricker (and also Mullen at Miss St)
Had some pretty good units at UF

Seems like a solid hire from everything ive read. I don’t think you can expect Ga Tech to be winning titles though. Just too hard to keep guys eligible

Why would he promote UGA while on staff at Moo State?

I don't care how good of a recruiter he is, 4 and 5 stars ain't taking calculus when they can go to the NFL taking basket weaving.

yep, Tech isn't a top 30 job, it's a top 30 university.

And they still have one fewer SEC championships (5) than does Ole Miss. Hell, Tulane has half the SEC championships as Ole Miss, and more than Kentucky and State.
And more recent national title than UGA
Or more recent than all SEC schools other than Bama, Florida, LSU, Auburn, and Tennessee

It would have to be lightning in a bottle for that to happen (think 2014 if we didn't screw up against Duke/UNC).
