Current Temple coach

Don’t know much about him

Curious if people think Ga Tech is a top 30 job? I don’t.

They draw 40k a game and have never been high profile.

I wonder if they change up the offense.

Who?

Atlanta Tech could've done better.

I hope not since Collins doesnt run the flex bone like Johnson. What better way to succeed at your new coaching job than to run an offense you know nothing about.

Stadium only holds 55k. So, they're nearly 80% full. Not great, but not terrible.

And they still have one fewer SEC championships (5) than does Ole Miss. Hell, Tulane has half the SEC championships as Ole Miss, and more than Kentucky and State.

They would have to since that's not what Temple runs. Going to be some growing pains with the offensive personnel that's already in place.

The recruiting location gives this job lots of potential. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to build a program that can consistently compete for acc titles.

The only reason Tech sucks is because of the admin. If they ever take it serious, Clemson goes away.

that's not really true.

even when people were ready to burn Chan Gailey at the stakes, we were getting 50-55k a game depending on the opponent. People simply got sick of the option and watching our undermanned players try to compete.

I'm not in a position to say if it's a "top 30 job". Someone would have to list out all of the power 5 teams and make a case for each for me to be knowledgeable enough to arbitrarily assign rankings to them. What I can say is that it has the potential to be a really solid job if the head coach embraces it. Paul Johnson never embraced it. He was a shite recruiter (partly because of him, partly because of his offense) and our AA was too cheap to hire a legit staff.

Our recently hired AD is committed to pump in more resources into the program, and I think we'll see that with the staff salaries for Collins' coaches.

When Collins was a GA under O'Leary, he was tasked with writing letters to kids all over the country since GA's weren't allowed to go on recruiting trips. He focused on the area outside of our recruiting footprint and really helped increase our talent level. He was in charge of on campus recruiting under Gailey in 2006 when they brought in their only top 15 class in forever.

I think this is going to be hit, whether idiots on here try to pretend like they don't know who he is or not. When he was DC at Florida he held UGA to 3 and 10 points respectively, which doesn't mean a whole lot in relation to Georgia Tech but he knows what he's doing.

He's been a DC at multiple SEC Schools (Mississippi State and Florida) and was head coach at Temple. He's energetic and should be able to have success recruiting to Georgia Tech.

Tech fans are happy to have him. He recruits his butt off.

Was at GT as a GA under OLeary, then again under Chan and was responsible for getting the core of GTs 2007 class of Nesbit, Bebe Thomas, Dwyer, Morgan Burnette, Derrick Morgan and many other key players.

He left when PJ was hired to go be Director of Player Development at Bama under Saban. Left Bama to be DC at Miss State in the Dak years and then left before GT played Miss State in the Orange Bowl in 2014 to be DC at Florida under McElwain. Then left there to go to Temple for his first HC job. Whew!

He has had a lot of experience working for some really good coaches. He has a lot of energy which is what GT desperately needs after an older staff. He is 47. It is going to be a breath of fresh air for the program.

I'm good with this. He recruits his arse off and has had success as a DC at big schools and was doing pretty good at Temple of all places. He's been at Tech twice so he knows the challenges he will be facing from day 1 as opposed to just about everyone else we hire who takes a year or 3 to figure that out. He also grew up a Tech fan so the guy is very passionate about the place. He's gonna need it because it wont be easy dealing with the Hill.

O'Leary and Friedgen were pushing for him as well so he has their support. Glad they won out vs the Curry guys who were pushing for Whisenhunt. IMO he would've been a disaster.

Anxious to see who he brings in as coordinators. Especially on offense. Could be a couple of down years or maybe not. We do have a lot of underclassman talent on the team. More than normal for Johnson's tenure. Recruiting will definitely improve. The talent in Georgia is insane. Way better than 20 years ago when O'Leary was here and even better than 10 years ago. Should be interesting.

He was Juicy Geoff here at State and was a good DC for us and a pretty good recruiter as well. He then took a "lateral move" to take the DC spot at Florida. The quotes refer to a comment Mullen said at the time (ironically enough).

I haven't really followed him after that but my guess is that he wanted a southern job either SEC or ACC and now has one. If he does well at Ga tech, I'm sure an SEC school will look at him when one of us has an opening.

He should have a solid defense and recruit Fla pretty well.

My $.02

I think hes prob the best hire they could have made... hes a proven head coach, fantastic DC, great recruiter, knows the area. No reason GA Tech cant be a top 30 Job, in 3-4 years if he has them ranked he will have people all over him for a top 10 job for sure... I dont think its as risky as some think.. The ACC is not a good conference and he is right in the middle of the recruiting hotbed. Hes another one Id look at if Im LSU. and Aranda doesnt stick around... Fire orgeron and hire him...

I'm pretty happy with what I've learned so far. Admittedly I'm learning about him by the minute.

GT wasn't going to land some can't miss, flavor of the day rockstar. This guy seems to differentiate himself by how hard he tries in recruiting. He's had some prestigious DC stops along the way and he has a decent enough Tech pedigree.

You're being charitable if you put them as the #5 job in the ACC. (Clemson, FSU, Miami, VA Tech)

Seems like a great hire. Experience and connections in the southeast, but also as head coach of Temple he had to sell an urban campus, which will help in leveraging Tech's location.

Love the hire. Geoff is a very high energy guy and the GT program needs some energy. They have a great recruiting base but academics makes it a little tougher on them.

I don't know if they're a top 30 program but they've been a sneaky good one under Johnson with 2 Orange Bowl trips.
