It's been years since I was in Baton Rouge, but I remember a supposed benefit of BK's house was it's proximity to campus and that allowed some sort of recruiting benefit? What's up with his old house? I assume it's available...

It's related to recruits being able to go to the coach's house only if it is within a certain distance of campus, if I recall correctly. It may also apply to current players, but I am not sure.

The deadline to me seems to be “hey I want y’all all on the plane with me and you got a spot no questions asked otherwise I gotta start looking” and that got blown out of proportion

He pulled a Ross Bjork and threw gasoline on to the fire by hiring Golding as the PERMANENT HEAD COACH.

The day after that happens, the staff that was supposed to be sticking together because of that decision is electing to follow Lane. That should tell you everything you need to about their confidence in Golding as a head coach.

Oh not to mention Golding went on record in the last 6 months saying he had no desire to ever be a head coach because he didn’t want to deal with the stress the main boss deals with.

I support Carter not letting Lane coach the playoff. But he turned an unfortunate situation into a catastrophe when he named Golding the permanent head coach

the whole thing is short sighted thinking. IMO the only reason why he made Golding the head coach was to keep all of the staff together to win this year. If everything was about this year, he should have just let Lane coach the team. That gave Ole Miss the best chance to win this year. Bad decicsion making all the way around.

That first meeting with the players he looked like he was about to stroke out. He won't last. I'd expect a Matt Luke kind of tenure.

Not trolling since you are here being a reasonable poster:

This feels so very much like a WVU-Bill Stewart situation. It felt really good for that staff and fanbase at the time. I remember watching that bowl game and seeing them carry him off the field and thought- “They are going to hire him now. What a great story!”

I learned a lot watching that one unfold. It became clear over the next two seasons that he just wasn’t head coach material. It set WVU on a long descent they’ve never been able to fully pull out of.

I’m not certain but heard that living within a mile of the campus allows coaches the ability to host recruits at their home on unofficial visits. Kelly’s home was across the street from the University Lake, which is technically part of the campus since it’s owned by LSU.

Correct. Mack Brown was doing the same thing at UNC when coaching.

Both will be like a kid in a candy story with the talent we have at their positions.

Also, I didn't know Kevin Smith was THAT Kevin Smith. The former Lions RB. I remember that crazy year in college that got him drafted. He's a Florida boy and has been with Kiffin for all except one year since 2017. Hopefully no positions in Florida schools open up. I'd like to keep him around. He'd fit in great with the players from Louisiana.
