Kragthorpe drawing SEC interest?
Some media outlets have written me looking for contact info on deposed U of L coach Steve Kragthorpe, saying he'll be on the short list if Gary Crowton is let go as offensive coordinator at Louisiana State.
Kragthorpe said he had three job offers during his farewell news conference today on campus, including one from a BCS school.
This doesn't constitute an offer, but it might mean some interest.

I would take Kragthorpe in a heartbeat. I am still shocked at his lack of success at Louisville. Many people think he is still a great coach, especially on offense.
Also goes to show that success doesn't always translate when a coach moves on, especially from a smaller program. That's why I would be wary of Peterson, Sumlin, etc.
Edit to add: I would take him as offensive coordinator, not head coach.

I've heard before that Kragthorpe is a good coach, but never with an explanation of what makes him good... discipline? gets a lot out of his players? creativity within his offense/play calling?
Also, was asking in another thread, what then was his downfall? Someone made a brief comment of him wanting to do things "the right way", which didn't make any sense to me. Any thoughts?

Well, I haven't followed Louisville much, but the word is supposedly that Petrino left a mess with a lot of discipline and academic issues. He was determined to do things the "right way" and sat out/ran off a lot of players. And then tried to recruit "better" people than Petrino had been recruiting. Apparently, to win at Louisville you have to recruit thugs.
Just what I heard. No verification. I don't think there is any argument that he is a good offensive guy, just maybe not a good head coach. Nothing wrong with that.

ok, thanks. That does make sense, and if true makes Kragthorpe sound like he's a high character guy. If so, and he's good at running an offense, sounds like he'd be a really good hire... assuming Crowton goes, of course.

he's a good coach. i think he would do a great job at LSU. i saw his teams in person a few times when he was at tulsa.

Despite firing two consecutive offensive coordinators and taking over the offense for the 2009 season, Louisville's offense declined all 3 years from 487 ypg/ 35 ppg in 2007 to 376 ypg/25 ppg in 2008 to 337 ypg/18.8 ppg in 2009.

Huge difference between HC and O/C.
Between this and the Schiano thread we need to make sure to keep you as far away from LSU's coach hiring department as possible.

Huge difference... especially since the offensive coordinators he fired produced better numbers than he did while coordinating the offense.
