Doubt that was expected

yeah you're right he probably expected that 4 days out from a playoff berth and possible HC gigs at ND, all of his assistants would jump ship and follow him to LSU.

Guess he should have consulted you before taking this job obviously a poorly thought out move

This was a lazy desperation hire by Notre Dame.

Where have I heard this story before?? Sounds familiar

for every Lincoln Riley and Ryan day there are 5 flame outs who were promoted inside the ranks.

It may work fine...it may not.

And both were given the keys to a Ferrari.

ND talent isn't at that level.

*And both have gotten beat this year while having far more talented rosters than their opponents.

Riley was a risk for OU. He'd only been an OC for a few years and got handed the reins to arguably one of top programs in the country.

And who did it work out for?

Hell, Notre Dame hired a high school football coach in the early 80s. That’s the definition of high risk.

Can you imagine the giant melt that would happen if LSU would hire JT Curtis? That’s basically what Notre Dame did

This will end in disaster, and I like ND. Ugh.

That tells me we wouldn't have got Fickell either

Probably sent out feelers and they came back cold. Yesterday they were saying it could take weeks which implied they'd wait for Fickell. Today they promote an assistant. Something changed.

Or they understood/were told a team without a HC has no chance of being in the CFP.

Hmmm, Fickell may have overplayed his hand. They don't even want to wait it out?

He wasn’t gonna leave when he a chance at the playoffs. Timing just didn’t work out for him.
