Choctaw, can you give a general rundown of why you're still such an ardent Miles supporter given the recent trajectory of the program, the consistently putrid Offenses, and the history of poor game management?

What in the hell are you babbling about? Recent trajectory? You mean the awesome recruiting class last year, what should be a great year this year with maturing players, and a banner 2016 recruiting crop?

List some poor game management from this year.......
I'll start it off, Gus Malzahn completely fricked up right before halftime of the Auburn-Alabama game......probably cost Auburn the game. Yet I don't hear the idiots harping on that.

its an even better gig when you figure Les gives his DCs total autonomy on that side of the ball. So great pay, free reign, and spring board to a big job.......and yet nothing? Its just a weird situation. From the very beginning, running interviews through his agent's office just seemed odd. I don't know man...

Take all this and the only plausible explanation is an AD screw up of epic proportions. Miles had a strong list got them to interview and then some mysterious blow up. Yet we have never had this problem before with miles whether it's oc, dc, position coaches we have never interviewed this much and had them blow up. It's Alleva man

Anyone who has ever had to find a replacement knows that a interview or look see does not equate to an offer and someone you might have had interest in taking themselves out of the running doesn't equate rejection of an offer not made.

Coaches get rejected all the time. If that really bothered them, they wouldn't be in coaching.

Due to the timing of this search, which LSU had nothing to do with, it probably started full swing bout 1-2-15. Not having a new DC by 1-8 is not some terrible delay. Let's just try to keep our panties dry a tad longer.

This aggravates me a little. I'm not a big fan of the coordinator pay and the realm it's at but I take my hat off to Auburn for knowing their weakness and their willingness to swing for the fences to solve it. I believe their willingness to do so is their AD's confidence in their head coach. LSU is one of the top money programs in the country and we have the money to keep up with other programs and we should most certainly do that on our defensive side of the ball. Much of LSU's success is due to fielding strong defenses. Whether you argue talent or coaching, defense is what has made LSU during Miles tenure. Knowing that, I would much rather pay our D coordinator top dollar and tighten up on the offensive side. I don't think who our offensive coordinator matters much with Les as the head coach. We are going to be a power run team and I'm fine with that but we shouldn't be paying top dollar to offensive coaches for the results of the current offense. I want to know why you claim LSU wouldn't be willing to pay a proven DC and recruiting the 1.8?

KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGE

LSU's coaching budget is very near the top.

You can't ignore the money being paid to the OC, and position coaches, and then say "it's only 400k."

Maybe, but some DCs also might realize that the burden to win may weigh more heavily on their shoulders at LSU than most programs. It's hard to defend our offense to some D coordinators looking to uproot their families, especially if the program you are at is willing to come close money wise. If I'm a DC, I would would be highly aware of the offensive woes.

I'm not. Didn't we just resign all of our offensive staff's contracts that have made them the highest paid staff? Why? We could have saved some money there.

if the DC does fail, which is a strong possibility if the offense can't turn it around.

It is funny that there are still actually people stupid enough to think that a DC is more likely to fail at LSU because of the offense than at a school like A&M or Baylor.

So much stupid in this post.

I think the current administration looks at the football program and currently sees an 8-5 team in Miles' 10th year at the school.

And then the DC wanted a 400K raise after an 8-5 year?

I don't know if everyone in the the administration is 100-percent behind Miles and will give him whatever he needed to hire a DC.

But, and that's a huge but, they are telling Miles that he has $1.2 to work with and that should be plenty to make a good hire. And you know what, they are right.

I completely agree with you. If the admin doesn't believe Miles can right the ship, than I would rather the quick pull of the band aid though. However, if you believe in Miles, you have to let him hire the best guy. This originally started by saying LSU wouldn't have paid 1.8 to Muschamp, and if the admin had the opportunity to pull that trigger and didn't, it would be very worrisome.

Les is the reason people are turning down the job. I think smart coaches see the writing on the wall for his tenure. I don't think he finishes his contract barring a major turnaround of the offense.

will depend mostly on which NFL DC gigs are available

i don't buy the 'recruiting connections to the south' thing, the staff concerns may have some truth.

frick, if all else fails, my body is so ready for a clark/bebe tag team

LSU's staff has always been towards the top. The recent extensions were automatic type of increases...nothing significantly different than what these guys were already making.

Miles knows what money he has to work with. He knows how much his budget is going to go up each year.

If I say you get 10M to spend on 10 coaches, it's not reasonable to spend 9M on 9 (while paying premiums for some) and then say, we need an additional 2M (which may be the going rate) for the 10th and then complain about not paying market value on the 10th.

Ending up with Brick with no O on staff is the worst possible outcome of this search, and that's the path that we are on.

I disagree. It would be now worse than 3rd and Chavis, not great but fair.

I don't get why its a prerequisite for the DC, but wasn't for the OC. Cam has been able to figure it out....

I'd say they are connected.

If his staff request was only someone like Orgeron, then obviously you are fine.

But, if hiring Pendergast meant that he's replacing Raymond then I would think you lost Miles.
